POSITION SUMMARY

The labor position is the entry level position for all crews. Most often this role involves cleaning up around the plant and performing other duties as assigned to support smooth operation.

Responsibilities
  • Perform a wide variety of duties in general manual labor at plants, offices, yards, and quarries. Work may involve repetitive heavy lifting, shoveling, handwork, climbing, and working at different heights.
  • Assist in equipment operation and servicing using basic tools (shovels, brooms, wheelbarrows, etc.).
  • Comply with company General Conduct and Safety Rules.
  • Clean and dispose of waste materials and debris from various locations around the plant.
  • Fill in or operate equipment and assist operators as assigned.
  • Operate water truck, sweeper, or vacuum truck as needed.
  • Report potential operational or safety problems to supervision.
  • Assist in maintenance, repair, and installation of machinery and equipment.
  • Perform general landscape work as needed (grass, weeds, bushes, hedges).
  • Clean out kilns and assist with loading/unloading railcars, trucks, or other vehicles as assigned.
  • Operate a forklift safely and efficiently.
  • Comply with company, state, and governmental health and safety regulations.
  • Perform work in a neat and orderly manner, following safety rules and regulations.
  • Perform general clean-up in all operational areas of the plant.
  • Perform repetitive lifting of 50–100 pounds or more when necessary.
  • Operate front-end loader and dump truck for clean-up work.
  • Performs all other duties as assigned.
Safe Quality Food (SQF)
  • Ensure a SQF workplace and follow regulatory compliance with Federal FDA Food Modernization Safety Act (CFR Title 21, Part 507).
  • Support Environmental Health and Safety and SQF initiatives and awareness programs.
  • Promote employee safety and SQF culture as a leader.
  • After SQF training, demonstrate understanding of expected safety, SQF performance, and Food Safety Culture.
  • Complete periodic SQF training(s).
  • Site locations provide training for new employees and ongoing for existing employees.
  • Employees actively participate in audits for regulatory, safety, SQF and environmental compliance at the site.
Attributes
  • Must be able to communicate effectively with supervisors and peers.
  • Must have a telephone and be open to shift work, seven days a week.
  • Must be available for call outs to the plant as needed.
Physical Demands
  • Must be physically able to perform work assigned.
  • Must be able to access all plant locations.
  • Access all areas within a site which could include heights up to 150 feet, confined spaces, climbing ladders or stairs, and tunnels.
  • Work in a lime/mineral environment with exposure to extreme heat and cold, noise, vibration, oils, and dust/fumes.
  • Occasional actions include standing, walking, balancing, stooping, kneeling, reaching, talking, seeing, hearing, and sitting.
  • Ability to lift/carry up to 37 pounds.
Education & Experience

REQUIRED

EDUCATION:

High School Diploma or GED Equivalent

PREFERRED EXPERIENCE:

Previous labor experience in an industrial manufacturing environment
