Job Description Summary

This position manages all workflow in the specified department, assists the Department Supervisor in overseeing, assigning, follow‑up and checking work, and participates in production or other production support segments of operations. The objective is to assist as coach and facilitator to the group responsible for continuous and efficient production, meeting desired quantity and quality according to customer requirements.

Essential Duties And Responsibilities
  • Under the direction of the Department Supervisor, assigns and directs workers in the group with respect to production volume, cost and quality of production and meeting production goals and delivery dates.
  • Assists in achieving maximum efficiency and productivity of group personnel.
  • Encourages efficient utilization of equipment and facilities, ensuring the work group has necessary resources to complete requirements.
  • Works with the Supervisor and group members to develop plans for fulfilling orders according to customer requirements, and assists in updating the group on pertinent information for successful delivery.
  • Performs continuous quality control inspections of own work and co‑workers during normal operations.
  • Assists in maintaining compliance with Company policies, safety standards, and good housekeeping practices.
  • Maintains work area, equipment, and supplies in a neat and orderly fashion and directs co‑workers to do the same.
  • Assists in training the work group, identifying training needs, providing technical assistance, and coaching during meetings and daily operations.
  • Assists in developing individual group members in process, team dynamics, basic quality tools, and problem‑solving models and techniques.
  • Assists in guiding the group’s problem‑solving process toward continuous improvement of quality and productivity, and advises the group of any organizational changes that may affect processes.
  • Interfaces with other departments as necessary, building rapport with critical units and individuals.
  • Refers unusual conditions or non‑routine problems to the Supervisor.
  • Conveys materials from storage or work sites to designated areas.
  • Confers with supervisors of other departments to coordinate the flow of materials or products.
  • Operates an industrial truck or electric hoist to assist in loading or moving materials and products.
  • Works with a planner for daily workload distribution to the production floor.
  • Resolves issues on the floor (shop orders, material problems, notes, quantities).
  • Assists with Final QC and backs up other departments as necessary.

Mathematical

Skills:

Solve problems requiring one or two operations; multiply negative numbers; calculate averages, simple ratios, percentages, and fractions; perform mixed‑number multiplication; organize information before calculation.

Computer

Skills:

Intermediate proficiency in Microsoft Word and Excel.

Other

Skills And Abilities:

Able to operate and use instruments such as a utility knife, industrial staple gun, and industrial glue gun; read machine gauges and interpret readings.

Physical Demands
  • Able to lift up to 50 lbs frequently.
  • Able to stand and walk on a concrete floor constantly.
  • Manual dexterity required for using tools such as calipers, wrenches, and screwdrivers.
  • Able to reach arm’s length (0 to 36 inches) in varying directions, including upward to eye level frequently.
  • Specific vision abilities required include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
