Responsibilities

JOB SUMMARY:

The Maintenance Mechanic/Technician (Day Shift) is responsible for ensuring the proper performance of the equipment.

RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES:

The primary responsibilities and duties of a Mechanic include:

* Assumes personal responsibility to ensure a safe and healthy workplace for everyone. Adheres to all safety policies/procedures and incorporates safety and health in all job duties/tasks

* Adheres to safe work practices, follows GMP and HACCP guidelines, maintains sanitary conditions and ensures that product quality is maintained. Reports any conditions or practices that may adversely affect employee safety or foods safety/quality to management immediately

* Attends and actively participates in daily safety meetings

* Monitors line efficiency and performs maintenance activities related to sustaining productivity

* Troubleshoots electrical/mechanical problems for processing equipment, which includes peelers, washers, cutting equipment, cooking equipment, combination scales, horizontal packaging machines (HFFS), fillers, case erectors, tapers, and coders

* Understands operations of building and grounds maintenance

* Performs adjustments and repairs on the utility systems such as 125# steam, air supply, swamp coolers, etc.

* Reads and understands blueprints

* Communicating all process inefficiencies, equipment malfunctions, safety concerns and GMP issues to the Maintenance Supervisor and applicable Line Lead

* Operate SAP computer system as well as other basic computer programs

* Performs accurate parts receiving, organization, use and allocation functions in SAP

* Accurately documents maintenance activities utilizing computer-based maintenance tracking system

* Report to management any conditions of practices that may adversely affect foods safety, food quality, or personal safety

* Must be able to work at heights using sufficient fall protection and/or fall prevention.

* Perform other duties as assigned

Qualifications

EDUCATION:

Associate degree (AA) or equivalent combination of education, training and/or experience preferred.

EXPERIENCE:

Combination of a minimum of 2 years in the following industries as a Maintenance Mechanic, Technician, or Trainee:

* Food Processing preferred

* Military service in a technical rating, MOS, or AFSC

* Industrial Maintenance Trade School

* Formal work experience may be substituted with completion of a vocational/shop program and demonstrated aptitude.

LANGUAGE

SKILLS:

Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively before groups, customers/vendors, or employees of the organization.

MATHEMATICAL

SKILLS:

Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs.

REASONING ABILITY:

Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, and diagram or schedule form.

LICENSES, CERTIFICATES, REGISTRATIONS:

Food Handler's Permit, Clark County Health Department (within 60 days of hire)

OTHER

SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

* Ability to read, write and speak English

* Lead by example

* Good communication skills

* Self-motivated

* Ability to effectively work with others in a team environment

* Possess a basic knowledge of the processing, packaging, and material handling equipment

* Possess a basic knowledge of the utilities in the plant and be able to maintain the equipment

* One (1) year experience (preferred) in industrial electrical troubleshooting

* Basic knowledge of Freon refrigeration systems (if applicable), ammonia refrigeration systems (if applicable), welding and torch cutting, waste treatment equipment, which includes centrifuges, clarifiers, dewatering equipment, and pumps

* Knowledge of SAP software

* Certified Forklift and Scissor Lift Operator (or the ability to pass certification within 60 days of hire)

The pay range for this position is $20.91 to $28.05 per hour.
