IDEAL CANDIDATEThe ideal candidate is a physically fit, dependable, and highly skilled in maintenance, construction, and landscaping. They take pride in keeping public spaces clean and well‑maintained, demonstrating strong work ethic, teamwork, and endurance. They have experience removing litter, debris, and waste from roadsides, parks, and recreational areas, as well as clearing overgrown or unauthorized vegetation. Proficient in using hand tools, power tools, and light machinery, they follow strict safety protocols and adapt to physically demanding tasks in various weather conditions.
This posting will create a non‑probationary internal Teamster eligibility list and fill one vacancy for this classification. The current vacancy is in the Public Works department. The internal Teamster eligibility list will be utilized to fill vacancies for this classification, for up to one hundred and eighty (180) days. Non‑probationary Teamster team members successfully completing the selection process will be placed on the internal Teamster eligibility list.
All other team members including part‑time/temporary employees along with external candidates may apply for this recruitment. These individuals may be considered after the appropriate recruitment process of the collective bargaining agreement has been followed. If the vacancy is not filled through promotion by a full‑time non‑probationary Teamster team members, the next opportunity for placement will be to hire qualified part‑time/temporary employees and external candidates.
INFORMATION!
- Pay Considerations
– The starting hourly pay for this position is $23.23. The selected candidate for this position will start at the beginning of the salary range, no exceptions. Existing employees will receive increases as outlined by their bargaining agreement. - Work Schedule
– This position is scheduled to work 4 days per week, 9 hours per day, (36 hour work week) Monday through Thursday or Tuesday through Friday, 5:30am to 3:00pm. - Environment
– Working mostly outdoors in an environment with exposure to all typical weather conditions, including travel from site to site, around high speed traffic, and indoors within various building facilities. Hazards include: exposure to sharp objects, moving objects, vehicles, dust, noise, vibration, grease, smoke, fumes, gases, uneven and slippery surfaces, cramped quarters, working at heights, biological waste, sewer hazards, toxic and caustic chemicals, inclement weather condition and electrical shock.
Performs unskilled and semi‑skilled work in construction, maintenance of asphalt / concrete, parks, and related service activities; litter and homeless abatement.
- One year of progressively responsible experience performing general field maintenance work.
- Equivalency:
May substitute a combination of equivalent education and experience. The city assesses 1 year of fulltime experience as equivalent to one year of education. - G.E.D. may be substituted for high school diploma.
- Must possess a valid State of Nevada driver’s license at time of hire and maintain a satisfactory motor vehicle record for the duration of employment.
Must obtain and maintain a valid:
- Nevada Department of Transportation, Flagger Certification within 12 (twelve) months of appointment to position. Failure to obtain and maintain this certification will result in non‑confirmation of appointment.
- IMSA or ATSSA Work Zone Safety Certification within 12 (twelve) months of appointment to position. Failure to obtain and maintain this certification will result in non‑confirmation of appointment.
