Starting Wage and Benefits

The starting wage for this position is $17.00/hr with a comprehensive and competitive benefits package.

* This position is eligible for a Spanish proficiency pay differential*

Schedule

Part‑time;
Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday with availability between 8:15 am – 5:45 pm and every Saturday morning 8:15 am – 12:15 pm. Average of 28‑30 hours /week.

Training and Career Path

When starting out as a Teller at Hills Bank, you will be set up to succeed with our designated career path and detailed training program.

The Teller career path begins with Foundational and Teller Training, progressing to advanced Teller components and additional bank areas.

You will begin in your branch shadowing an experienced co‑worker to gain familiarity with your new role.

Next, you will be shadowed until you feel comfortable and confident you can provide our Hills Bank customers the quality service they deserve.

Scope

The teller directly services customers with paying and receiving bank functions, including savings, checking, credit account transactions, and sales of money orders.

Providing a high level of customer service and referring customers to other bank departments are primary responsibilities.

Balancing daily cash and understanding teller compliance regulations are also required.

Accountabilities

Service Requests

  • Provide exceptional customer service to maintain high standards.
  • Process checking and savings account transactions, mortgage and consumer loan payments, credit card transactions, etc.
  • Issue official checks, money orders, and bank checks; redeem bonds and assist customers with additional services.
  • Verify significant information per bank policy and procedure and ensure compliance with all procedures.
  • Maintain customer confidentiality and handle all collection and disbursement functions properly.
  • Open night deposit vault, log contents, and process deposits with dual control.
  • Assist customers with safe deposit box access, following all bank procedures.
  • Comply with laws and regulations related to teller duties, including bank secrecy, privacy, and funds availability policies.
  • Answer telephone inquiries from customers and internal staff about accounts, statements, charges, interest, etc., in an efficient, courteous manner.

Cash Handling

  • Maintain adequate working funds and verify daily cash drawer with minimal variances.
  • Assist supervisor in reconciling errors or discrepancies for self and other tellers.
  • Purchase working money supply from Assistant Branch Manager/Branch Manager as needed.
  • Count and verify currency.

Relationship Management

  • Support sales effort and meet sales goals for referrals to other bank products.
  • Identify customers’ financial service needs and cross‑sell appropriate services.
  • Advise on promotional items, refer prospects to appropriate departments such as Commercial, Home Mortgage, and Trust and Wealth Management.
  • Participate in retail product campaigns and special events.
  • Maintain knowledge of bank product offerings to refer customers accurately.
  • Use the CRM system to personalize interactions and manage referrals.
  • Adhere to customer service standards through the Voice of the Customer program.

Other

  • Assist in support of other bank activities as requested.
  • Participate in community activities throughout the year to support philanthropy.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
Education and

Special Requirements
  • Prefer a high school diploma or equivalent.
  • 1‑2 years of experience in a related position, preferably in retail with cash handling responsibilities.
  • Proficiency in computer skills and office equipment usage.
  • Dexterity to count money.
  • Ability to lift 50 pounds.
  • Successfully complete all training and evaluation requirements in the Retail Teller Career Path to progress from Teller 1 to Teller 3.
  • Participate in at least three bank‑sponsored or community events annually.
