Job Summary

Oversee kitchen and cafeteria to include the management of time, people and product independently and effectively. Responsible for the oversight of the food service department (at a particular site).

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • Prepares and cooks all meals. Requests assistance from Assistant Cook, as needed.
  • Reviews menu, menu instructions and production records prior to the day of service.
  • Reviews method of preparation with appropriate staff and prepares ahead, as needed.
  • Orders and receives daily or weekly food, beverage and supplies, stores properly.
  • Supervises and schedules the production of food items and use of proper equipment.
  • Ensures that the kitchen is fully staffed.
  • Checks the quality and temperature of food prior to service. Makes necessary adjustments and maintains corresponding documentation, as necessary.
  • Maintains accurate completion and maintenance of daily production records.
  • Prepares monthly inventory of all on-site products and supplies.
  • Complete end of the month billing, safety checklists and HACCP logs.
  • Oversees the program in accordance with federal, state, local and board requirements.
  • Practices safe food preparation, care of equipment, and strong sanitation standards.
  • Maintains purchase records and reports, an inventory database, and compile orders.
Marginal Duties and Responsibilities
  • Ensures completion of kitchen duties and responsibilities to include filling in other positions as necessary.
  • Provides update to Director of Food and Nutrition regarding all practical concerns and problems.
  • Performs other duties as assigned by the Director of Food and Nutrition.
Qualifications
  • Some experience preferred
  • High school diploma necessary
  • Attend Safe Server course
  • Knowledge and understanding of various cleaning chemicals is necessary
  • Submission of pre-employment medical examination (Section 148 of the Pennsylvania School Code)
  • Submission of a report of criminal history record from the Pennsylvania State Police (Section 111 of the Pennsylvania School Code)
  • Submission of a clearance report from the Pennsylvania Department of Public Welfare in accordance with Act 151 of 1994
  • Submission of Federal Criminal History Record in accordance with Act 114 of 2006
  • Submission of the Arrest/Conviction Report and Certification Form as required under Act 24 of 2011
  • Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Board may find appropriate and acceptable
