Maintenance Technician
This role is an excellent opportunity for a hands-on maintenance technician with strong electrical and mechanical skills to support a high-volume industrial bakery operation. You will diagnose and repair mechanical, pneumatic, and electrical breakdowns across production equipment, with a primary focus on mechanical work and a significant component of electrical troubleshooting in a manufacturing environment.
Responsibilities- Respond to and resolve mechanical, pneumatic, and electrical breakdowns on production equipment in a timely and safe manner.
- Perform preventive maintenance (PM) on conveyors, gear boxes, motors, and other critical components to minimize downtime and extend equipment life.
- Troubleshoot and repair belt- and chain-driven conveyor systems, including mechanical adjustments, alignment, and component replacement.
- Service and repair gear boxes and three-phase motors, working with electrical systems typically ranging from 24 to 260 volts and up to 480 volts when needed.
- Conduct PLC troubleshooting and basic PLC control work to support automated processes and ensure reliable operation.
- Use a variety of shop and hand tools such as drill presses, metal cutting saws, mills and lathes, hydraulic presses, die grinders, and standard hand and power tools to fabricate, modify, or repair parts.
- Read and interpret blueprints, schematics, and technical drawings to diagnose issues and execute accurate repairs.
- Perform hydraulic system troubleshooting and repairs, including identifying leaks, replacing components, and ensuring proper operation.
- Carry out general maintenance repair tasks across the facility, including industrial mechanical repairs and adjustments.
- Apply strong troubleshooting skills to quickly identify root causes of equipment issues and implement effective corrective actions.
- Maintain a "fixer" mentality by proactively identifying potential equipment problems and addressing them before they result in downtime.
- Work effectively within a small maintenance crew, collaborating and communicating with team members to prioritize work and support production needs.
- Follow all safety and food-grade facility requirements while performing maintenance tasks, ensuring compliance with standards and regulations.
- Document maintenance activities, repairs, and preventive maintenance tasks as required by facility procedures.
- At least 2 years of industrial maintenance experience in a manufacturing environment.
- At least 3 years of electrical experience in a manufacturing environment.
- Strong mechanical aptitude, including experience with wrenching and hands-on repair work.
- Demonstrated "fixer" mentality, with experience working on diesel and automotive engines or similar mechanical systems.
- Proficiency in troubleshooting mechanical, electrical, hydraulic, and pneumatic systems.
- Experience with preventive maintenance on industrial equipment.
- Ability to work with three-phase electrical systems and voltages commonly ranging from 24 to 260 volts and up to 480 volts.
- Experience with PLC troubleshooting and basic PLC control in an industrial setting.
- Strong electrical troubleshooting skills in an industrial environment.
- Ability to read and interpret blueprints and electrical schematics.
- Experience with industrial maintenance repair, including working on conveyors, gear boxes, motors, and related equipment.
- Comfort using a variety of tools and equipment, including drill presses, metal cutting saws, mills, lathes, hydraulic presses, die grinders, and standard hand and power tools.
- Ability to work 12-hour rotating night shifts (7 p.m. to 7 a.m.) after completing day-shift training.
- Strong commitment to safety and adherence to food-grade facility standards.
Skills & Qualifications
- No specific certifications or formal education requirements; experience and practical skills are highly valued.
- Experience working in an industrial bakery or other food-grade manufacturing environment is beneficial.
- Prior experience in a unionized maintenance environment is an advantage.
- Comfort working in a climate-controlled facility where strong odors and smells may be present depending on production.
