RN MedSurg PCU

The Registered Nurse (RN) for the Medical Surgical Unit (MSU) and Progressive Care Unit (PCU) is responsible for delivering comprehensive nursing care to patients in a 25-bed critical access hospital setting. The RN must be experienced across multiple departments and flexible to assist as needed. Key functions include patient education, safety management, infection control, accurate documentation, and effective communication with the healthcare team.

An active Washington state RN license and a minimum of three years of relevant experience are required.

• Assess and address patient and significant others' education needs using appropriate modalities.
• Implement patient safety measures including use of side rails, restraints, and safe equipment operation.
• Follow restraint policies and evaluate/document patient status accordingly.
• Operate and troubleshoot equipment safely in PCU, telemetry, and med-surg areas; access manuals as needed.
• Apply infection control and isolation procedures using standard precautions with proper documentation.
• Maintain complete, accurate, and concise documentation of patient status, nursing interventions, and responses.
• Accurately document charge and complete physician orders timely, including 24-hour order checks when assigned.
• Provide thorough change-of-shift reports to incoming staff.
• Communicate effectively with other departments and report critical lab values promptly to physicians.
• Maintain and restock emergency carts, patient rooms, and general supplies.
• Perform other duties as assigned, demonstrating flexibility across departments.

• Active Registered Nurse license in the state of Washington.
• Minimum of 3 years nursing experience, preferably in med-surg, telemetry, or PCU settings.
• Strong clinical assessment and patient education skills.
• Knowledge of infection control and patient safety protocols.
• Proficiency in accurate clinical documentation and medication administration.
• Effective communication and interdisciplinary collaboration skills.

• Experience with telemetry and progressive care unit nursing.
• Familiarity with equipment troubleshooting and maintenance in acute care settings.

• Must be willing and able to flex between departments as needed.
• Adherence to hospital policies on restraints, infection control, and patient safety is critical.
• Work environment includes med-surg, telemetry, and PCU units with potential exposure to infectious diseases.

• Day shift schedule for MSU/PCU nursing coverage.
• Shift assignments may require flexibility to cover multiple departments.
