Incoming Quality Audit (IQA) is a critical process within the Caterpillar Quality Management System. Inspectors in IQA perform inspection of components purchased from external suppliers as well as CAT interplant suppliers. IQA inspectors are responsible for planning the inspections, conducting inspections, documenting results, and communicating results to Caterpillar coworkers and suppliers. There is a significant amount of computer work associated with this job as well as visual inspection and measurement.
Rework and repair cost reduction duties are also a common task in IQA.
- Conduct quality control inspections on a wide variety of piece parts, components, assemblies, and systems to determine conformance or non-conformance to engineering requirements.
- Use visual inspections, hand measurements, tools, gauges, and other techniques as needed to determine conformance to engineering requirements.
- Achieve a high level of understanding of engineering drawings and engineering specifications to guide determination of conformance or non-conformance of purchased parts.
- Conduct inspections in support of production quality control plans as well as components for
- New Product Introduction (NPI) programs.
- Create, maintain, and update detailed electronic inspection plans in SAP.
- Document all non-conformances in SAP with clear descriptions of the non-conformance and photographs of the defect. Create Material Review Disposition Records (MRDRs) for supplier non-conformances. Contribute as needed to the cause investigation and corrective action for issues.
- Facilitate daily Material Review Board (MRB) meetings dispositioning Non-Conforming Material (NCM).
- Communicate inspection results to management, supplier quality engineers, and coworkers in operations. Communicate results in a constructive and diplomatic fashion.
- Touch up paint and complete minor rework to return NCM to print specification.
- At least one year of experience is required in Quality Inspection, Fabrication, Machining, Assembly, Assembly Repair, or Paint.
- 2+ Years of experience reading engineering drawings.
- 2+ Years of experience performing computer-based work for significant portions of the day.
- Additional quality inspection experience highly desirable.
- Experience using Cat 1E specifications is highly desirable.
- Experience in use of manual measurement devices (calipers, gauges, micrometers) highly desirable.
- Prior training and experience with geometric dimensioning and tolerance is desirable.
- Computer proficiency and in particular experience using SAP & AQE software highly desirable.
- Experience with root cause corrective action for quality issue resolution desirable.
- Strong communication skills and ability to build positive working relationships with coworkers.
Job Requirements - Quality Production
- Constantly stands on concrete floors while retrieving parts/tools and completing tasks at assigned workstation. Walks on concrete floors while retrieving parts/tools from distances of a few feet to approximately 80 feet; frequently to constantly throughout the shift.
- Constantly operates equipment and machinery that requires clear focus, decision making, depth perception, spatial awareness, audio and visual acuity.
- Occasionally reference standard work, prints, and engineering specification, and other job aids, requiring the ability to read small print on screens and paper
- Sits on scooter or creeper (close to floor) on occasional basis to position body under the machine or at the bottom of the part or machine.
