Union Tank Car Company (UTLX) is seeking applicants to become a member of our production team at our full-service rail tank car repair shop in Cleveland, Texas. Position Summary:

The Car Repairman is responsible for performing welding and mechanical repairs on tank cars, ensuring structural integrity, safety, and quality while following established procedures and working in a physically demanding industrial environment.

Primary Responsibilities:
  • Welds components related to tank cars including tanks, bolsters, underframes, side sills, etc.
  • Performs welded repairs byutilizingair arc cutting torch and stick or wire welding equipment.
  • Uses hand tools and equipment to chip and grind weld,slagor spatter.
  • Repairs, straightens, removes, reworks car parts, brakes, underframes, center plates, gears, couplers, valves, etc. using various hand and power tools.
  • Performs welding and mechanical repairs to tank and hopper cars when required.
  • Maintains work area in a neat and orderly manner andreportspotential hazards.
Required Qualifications:
  • High School Diplomaor equivalent,or ability to passa Combined Basic Skills Assessment Test
  • Must pass the applicable welding testas prescribed bythe company
  • Demonstrated mechanical aptitude
  • Abilityto work effectively both independently and as part of a team
  • Abilityto follow written and verbal instructions with minimal supervision
  • Ability to readandinterpretsafety rules,operating and maintenance instructions, procedure manuals, and assemblydocuments
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with attention to detail.
  • Abilityto work any shift, including overtime, aspermittedby theunion contract
  • Dependable attendance and reliability
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Welding certifications
  • Experience in an Industrial Repair or Manufacturing environment.
  • Railindustryexperience

Work Environment &

Schedule:
  • Work is performed in an industrial railcar repair environmentinvolvesregular exposure to challenging physicallydemandingand environmental conditions.
  • Duties may be performed outdoors in varying weather conditions
  • Exposure to dirt, dust, fumes, smoke, heat, and noise is common
  • Job requires moderate to heavy physical exertion, including lifting, climbing, working at heights, and working in confined spaces
  • Must be able to enter tank cars through 20-inch manway openings
  • Manual dexterity and physical coordinationrequiredfor tool and equipment operation
  • Potential exposure to hazardous materials due to leaks or spills
  • Must comply withall required personal protective equipment (PPE) and safety protocols
  • Vision correctable to 20/30 for inspection tasks
  • On-site work arrangement: 5 days a week, with overtime as required.
