Assistant Project Manager
Job Description
The Assistant Project Manager supports the successful delivery of large-scale wastewater treatment plant retrofit and expansion projects, typically valued at over $50 million. Working closely with a Project Manager and a Project Administrator, this role focuses on new construction and involves coordinating documentation, tracking project costs and progress, and helping ensure work is completed safely, on schedule, and within budget. This position offers the opportunity to contribute to high-profile government projects while developing strong construction management and project engineering skills within a growing and supportive team.
Responsibilities
+ Assist in estimating and preparing change orders, ensuring accuracy and timely submission.
+ Prepare and review submittals to verify compliance with contract documents, specifications, and project requirements.
+ Assist in monitoring labor hours and material costs to support effective cost control and budgeting.
+ Expedite and track deliveries of major equipment and materials, coordinating with vendors and internal teams to avoid delays.
+ Support the preparation of billing applications and progress reports to document project status and support timely invoicing.
+ Assist with project scheduling activities, helping to update and maintain project schedules and milestones.
+ Maintain and update change order logs, and follow up on pending changes to ensure proper documentation and approvals.
+ Monitor accounts receivable related to assigned projects and assist in resolving billing or payment issues.
+ Assist in reviewing contract drawings, detail drawings, and specifications to identify scope, requirements, and potential issues.
+ Collaborate with the Project Manager and Project Administrator to support day-to-day project coordination and documentation.
+ Participate in site inspections as needed to observe work in progress and verify alignment with plans and specifications.
Essential Skills
+ 2-3 years of construction management experience, preferably on large or complex projects.
+ Bachelor's degree in engineering or construction management.
+ Experience in construction environments, ideally involving water, wastewater, treatment plants, mechanical systems, or large infrastructure projects.
+ Strong organizational and advanced time management skills to handle multiple tasks and deadlines.
+ Strong written and verbal communication skills in English.
+ Demonstrated strong work ethic with a results-driven approach.
+ Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications.
+ Ability to work effectively in a project engineer or assistant project manager capacity within a construction setting.
Additional
Skills & Qualifications
+
Experience with treatment plant, mechanical, or other large infrastructure projects is preferred.
+ Familiarity with project management and construction management practices in water and wastewater environments.
+ Experience or exposure to P6 (Primavera) scheduling software is a plus.
+
Experience with E-Builder project management software is a plus.
+
Experience with Trimble or similar construction technology tools is a plus.
+ Local candidates are highly preferred due to the regional nature of the work and long-term career opportunities.
Work Environment
The Assistant Project Manager spends most of their time in an office or jobsite trailer environment, with regular visits to the active construction site for inspections and coordination. The role follows a Monday through Friday schedule, typically from 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. The work centers on large wastewater treatment plant retrofit and expansion projects in South Florida, providing exposure to complex mechanical, piping, pumping, and water/wastewater systems.

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of North Miami Beach, FL.
Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $33.65 - $43.27/hr.
