General Statement of Job
Under general supervision, performs skilled and semi-skilled work in the installation, maintenance and repair of electrical and mechanical systems and equipment, including generators, building electrical systems, control systems, low voltage systems, HVAC, etc.; coordinates major repairs as needed, and performs related duties as required. Ensures Code compliance of industry standards. Reports to the Facility Management Superintendent.
Minimum Training And ExperienceEducation:
High School diploma
Vocational/technical school training in electrical installation and repair
Experience:
Three to five years of experience in electricity, instrumentation, construction, mechanical
Any equivalent combination of training and experience which provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities
Certifications- Must possess Journeyman’s Electrical License
- Must obtain a valid commercial driver’s license
Note
- The City retains the right to determine equivalencies.
- Any certifications not possessed at hire, must be obtained before the employee is removed from probation in order to continue employment with the City.
- Must be physically able to operate a crane truck, air compressors, generators, meters, a computer, a wattmeter, electric acteator/controller, electrical hand tools, and a variety of electrical and mechanical tools and equipment.
- Must be able to exert in excess of one hundred pounds of force occasionally, and/or in excess of fifty pounds of force frequently, and/or in excess of twenty pounds of force constantly to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects. Must be able to lift and/or carry weights of ten to one hundred pounds.
Installs, maintains and repairs electrical components and equipment, including but not limited to general electrical wiring, control panels, electrical outlets, switches, breakers, light fixtures, circuits, etc.
Troubleshoots and diagnoses equipment and system problems; schedules and performs routine repair work or parts replacement.
Coordinates major repairs with vendors/ service providers as necessary.
Performs preventive maintenance on generators and ensures generators are always ready for emergency use.
Assists in maintaining and repairing HVAC and refrigeration systems and equipment.
Repairs and adjusts magnetic security door locks and other locking systems.
Assists other facility maintenance staff with duties as necessary.
Reads and interprets construction plans, specifications, technical repair manuals, operating guides, schematics, wiring diagrams, shop drawings, and code books.
Operates a vehicle, trucks, man‑lift equipment, bucket truck, mechanic’s tools, electrician’s tools, other hand and power tools, etc.; operates general office equipment including a computer and telephone; exercises care and safety in the use and maintenance of assigned equipment.
Maintains equipment maintenance history within a work order management system and other software systems as may be required. Provides adequate records of labor, materials and equipment used in the completion of work orders, maintain maintenance logs, operation logs, computer reports and wiring schematics.
Orders and maintains inventory of necessary supplies, materials and parts.
Prepares and submits daily work reports as required.
Performs all work in accordance with all applicable electrical codes, policies, procedures, regulations and standards of safety and quality; ensures the timely completion of all assignments.
Is responsible for ensuring that all electrical work and devices are consistent with specifications and local electrical codes, and reviews electrical plans as necessary.
Attends training, meetings, etc., as required to enhance job knowledge, skills and professional licenses.
Additional Job FunctionsPerforms stand‑by duties on a 24‑hour basis; rotates stand‑by with co‑workers.
