Position is for 8.00 hours per day, 182 days + 10 additional contract days per year. The incumbent will consult with the school principal to schedule those 10 days (typically 5 days before and 5 days after the teacher contract). Salary is according to the Educator Salary Schedule, and the position is eligible for benefits.
The role is split between North Ogden Junior High (home and evaluative school) and South Ogden Junior High, alternating days (A/B days).

- Out‑of‑district applicants and in‑district applicants not currently in a school counseling position must be approved through the district screening process prior to applying.

- Out‑of‑district or in‑district applicants not in a school counseling position must submit a current resume to Attachments and two current letters of recommendation to the References section.

Job OverviewUnder the direction of the school principal, a junior high school counselor is responsible for developing, implementing, and evaluating high‑quality K‑12 college and career readiness counseling programs that benefit students, families, educators, and communities. School counselors promote improved student learning and outcomes in academic, career, life, social, and emotional development.
Duties and Responsibilities- Provide individual counseling and guidance services, including an academic plan aligned with placement data and graduation requirements; knowledge of student interests and abilities; plans for current and future school success; college and career readiness goals; parent involvement in planning.
- Plan and implement effective prevention and classroom instructional strategies, including ASCA Mindsets & Behaviors and Tier 1 skills.
- Build staff understanding of the counseling role.
- Advocate for all students regardless of disability, economic status, or background.
- Guide students through developing their individual Plan for College and Career Readiness (PCCR).
- Consult with teachers, staff, and parents to address diverse student needs.
- Work collaboratively with school and community stakeholders to support student success.
- Facilitate and implement interventions for students with critical needs, including short‑term counseling in small groups and individual settings.
- Identify gaps in opportunity, achievement, attendance, behavior, and resources.
- Provide responsive services to students and families in crisis.
- Have knowledge of the Utah College and Career Readiness Program Model.
- Knowledge of school, district, and community resources and programs.
- Effectively and equitably disseminate information to students, parents, and staff.
- Demonstrate professional ethics as outlined by the Utah Professional Practices Advisory Commission.
- Conform to district policies including attendance, absences, and evaluations.
- Attendance is an essential function of this position: physical presence at the worksite is required for collaboration and interaction.
- Assist other personnel as required to support their work activities.
- Master’s degree in school counseling.
- Utah State Board of Education School Counseling Professional license.
- College and Career Readiness (CCR) Certificate required.
- Experience in a school setting preferred.
- Regular sitting, speaking, and listening.
- Frequent standing, walking, and reaching.
- Occasional lifting of objects up to 25 pounds.
- Vision: close, distance, and ability to adjust focus.
- Typical public school and office environment.
- Moderate noise level, occasional escalation in classrooms, cafeterias, or hallways.
- Exposure to high‑stress situations; ability to interact with emotionally dysregulated students, staff, and parents.
- Occasional local travel between district facilities or community resource locations.
