Senior Lab Technician
The Senior Lab Technician performs all standard and non-standard tests related to home and security products. This role operates, maintains, and troubleshoots test equipment following written or verbal test instructions, while documenting all testing results. The Senior Lab Technician works with engineers to analyze and interpret data. This role also mentors and trains others as assigned.
Responsibilities- Perform all standard and non-standard tests related to home and security products.
- Document all testing results into a standard test report while working with engineers to analyze and interpret data.
- Operate, maintain, and troubleshoot test equipment following written or verbal test instructions. Monitor equipment, collect data, and ensure test specimens operate within the defined specifications.
- Independently build new test configurations utilizing preexisting core equipment that can be reconfigured to match testing requirements.
- Maintain a working knowledge of the certification and real‑world test requirements for plumbing and security related products.
- Work directly with project engineers and various other team members requiring testing. Provide technical support and service in an independent and timely manner.
- Proficient in the use of hand tools, design test fixtures, and fabricate equipment as required for assigned projects.
- Modify computer programs required to operate test equipment such as programmable logic controllers.
- Collaborate and partner with other engineering groups on multi‑discipline projects.
- Mentor and train others as assigned.
- A degree in Mechanical Engineering Technology is preferred. A high school diploma or equivalent related field experience may offset some of the experience requirements.
- A minimum of 5 years of experience in an engineering lab or test environment is required.
- Experience in product testing, preferably consumer products.
- Familiar with electronic/electrical, hydraulic, and pneumatic systems.
- Familiar with programmable logic controllers, computer control, and data acquisition systems.
- Fluent in Microsoft Office tools.
- Good communication and collaboration skills.
- Must be able to independently manage projects and tasks.
Fortune Brands believes in fair and equitable pay. A reasonable estimate of the base salary range for this role is $45,000 USD – $68,000 USD. Employees will participate in an annual bonus plan or a role‑based sales incentive plan.
