Position: Assistant Store Manager FT

Lids Sports Group is the largest licensed sports retailer in North America. We sell fan and fashion-oriented headwear and apparel across the US, Canada, Mexico, Europe, and Australia. Operating out of Indianapolis, IN, our retail stores offer officially licensed products from collegiate and professional sports teams, as well as top brands such as Nike, New Era, Adidas, and Mitchell & Ness. We operate over 1,200 locations domestically and more than 50 internationally, including specialty concept stores for the NBA, NHL, Paris Saint‑Germain, and many MLB teams.

General Position Summary

At Lids, Assistant Store Managers are the heart and soul of the brand. They foster passion for sporting and fashion goods by meeting customer needs while ensuring store performance, creating an inclusive environment, and delivering exceptional customer service.

Principle Duties And Responsibilities People & Training
  • Act as Manager on duty for employee scheduling issues and customer complaints when the Store Manager is not present.
  • Manage store associates through LIDS Training Programs, set sales and task goals, and conduct regular follow‑ups.
  • Administer progressive discipline steps, including verbal and written warnings, in the absence of the Store Manager.
  • Create a fun and productive environment that helps team members understand how their work supports company objectives.
  • Contribute to a respectful and inclusive team environment by establishing supportive working relationships and adhering to Lids Brand Standards.
  • Schedule and staff the store, calling in associates during unexpected peaks when the Store Manager is not present.
  • Participate in LIDS Training Programs and regularly follow up on set goals.
  • Assist in recruiting and training store personnel on proper operations and procedures.
  • Encourage store associates’ compliance with company policies, procedures, and guidelines, including safekeeping of inventory, funds, and property.
  • Other duties as assigned.
Customer Experience
  • Lead, execute, and assist in Selling 101 strategy to achieve KPIs and sales targets while delivering exceptional customer service.
  • Resolve customer feedback and address issues promptly, including escalations and urgent requests.
  • Ensure every customer is offered the opportunity to participate in Lids’ membership programs or special offers throughout their visit.
  • Adhere to visual guidelines, including proper merchandising, signage, and store cleanliness.
  • Maintain a professional appearance in line with the Company Dress Code Policy.
Additional Principal Duties And Responsibilities Operations
  • Execute company‑level directives, promotions, and initiatives from Lids HQ.
  • Follow the Policies & Procedures Manual to maintain a safe work environment.
  • Maintain store technology and equipment—MPOS, Lids Custom, etc.—by conducting daily audits, verifying functionality, and ordering repairs as needed.
  • Maintain store facilities, supplies, and services by executing service requests, assessing repair needs, placing repair orders, or replenishing supplies.
  • Manage cash accurately, including opening and closing the till, using counterfeit protection practices, and performing consistent bank drops.
  • Prepare the store for inventory audits and assist in performing them as needed.
  • Open and close the store following the procedures outlined in the Operations P&P Manual.
Product & Inventory Management
  • Protect company assets within LIDS Retail policies.
  • Assist in preparing store work schedules that provide proper coverage and stay within wage control guidelines.
  • Manage inventory accurately, including receiving, transferring, price changes, and product counts.
  • Organize the backroom strategically to maximize efficiency and productivity.
  • Execute optimal layout and visual merchandising, including managing window activations, hardware flips, mannequin flips, and seasonal or weekly merchandise changes.
