The Utility Scale Energy Storage team is seeking an experienced Project Manager / Civil Engineering Subject Matter Expert (SME) to support the development, engineering, and execution of utility-scale Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) projects and renewable energy infrastructure initiatives. This role will provide technical leadership and project management support across the full project lifecycle, from conceptual development and engineering review through construction and project execution.
The successful candidate will serve as the civil engineering technical authority for utility-scale energy storage projects, supporting multidisciplinary engineering teams, project managers, contractors, consultants, and regulatory stakeholders. This position requires strong expertise in civil engineering design, permitting, grading, foundations, stormwater management, and utility infrastructure development, combined with strong project coordination and stakeholder management skills.
The ideal candidate is a licensed Professional Engineer (PE) with utility-scale power generation or industrial infrastructure experience and the ability to manage complex technical reviews, engineering coordination, and project execution activities in fast-paced environments.
Travel to project sites may be required.
Primary Areas of Responsibility - Civil Engineering & Project Management:
• Support utility-scale Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) and renewable energy projects throughout planning, engineering, permitting, construction, and execution phases
• Serve as the Civil Engineering Subject Matter Expert (SME) for project design, code compliance, permitting, and engineering reviews
• Lead and coordinate civil engineering support activities across multidisciplinary project teams
• Review and provide technical input on:
• Hydrology & Drainage Studies
• Geotechnical Reports
• Civil Design Packages
• Stormwater Pollution Prevention Plans (SWPPP)
• Spill Prevention, Control & Countermeasure (SPCC) Plans
• Site Grading & Earthwork Designs
• Foundations & Structural Support Systems
• Access Roads & Onsite Infrastructure Layouts
• Ensure compliance with:
• Local, State, and Federal Codes & Regulations
• Utility & Renewable Energy Standards
• Environmental & Permitting Requirements
• Civil Engineering Best Practices
• Develop project-specific engineering scopes of work for Engineers of Record (EORs), consultants, and contractors
• Support civil design reviews and provide recommendations for constructability, permitting, cost optimization, and operational reliability
• Coordinate with project management, engineering, construction, environmental, and permitting teams to support successful project execution
• Manage and prioritize multiple projects, technical reviews, and stakeholder requests simultaneously
• Support engineering evaluations and technical decision-making throughout the project lifecycle
• Travel to project sites as needed to support construction activities, site evaluations, and technical coordination
Supporting Areas of Responsibility - Technical Leadership & Compliance:
• Function as technical lead for civil engineering compliance, permitting, and infrastructure development activities
• Analyze complex technical and administrative challenges and develop practical, cost-effective engineering solutions
• Review project designs for compliance with applicable codes, standards, and engineering requirements
• Coordinate with contractors, consultants, and external stakeholders to resolve technical issues and support project execution
• Support project risk identification, mitigation planning, and issue resolution activities
• Prepare and present technical reports, project updates, engineering evaluations, and stakeholder presentations
• Collaborate across business units to support project planning, development, and execution initiatives
• Support continuous improvement efforts related to engineering quality, design standards, and project delivery processes
• Manage consultant and contractor performance related to civil engineering deliverables and project execution support
