Job Description
Responsible for performing engineering assignments ranging from limited scope and complexity to advanced engineering projects requiring expertise in multiple disciplines. Works under varying levels of supervision depending on experience, with increasing independence at higher levels.
Assists with project management, negotiations, performance tracking, and reporting. Responsibilities may include planning, organizing, and managing engineering projects, ensuring regulatory compliance, and leading technical teams. Engages in decision-making, technical analysis, project coordination, and engineering oversight with a focus on utility-scale Solar, Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS), and power plant operations.
Acts as an extension of the engineering team to ensure designs meet project specifications, safety standards, and long-term performance and reliability goals.
Employees in this role are responsible for planning, designing, and executing various energy storage projects. This includes exploration of subject areas, scope definition, engineering oversight, and collaboration across cross-functional teams to deliver best-in-class energy storage solutions.
Duties & Responsibilities
- Support the design phase and engineer major components for large-scale energy storage projects
- Recognize inconsistencies in engineering drawings, take corrective action, and improve design quality and efficiency
- Identify and resolve errors in engineering studies and recommend future solutions
- Prepare technical scopes of work for contracts
- Support projects from inception to completion in coordination with Project Managers
- Influence project teams on engineering-related tasks and priorities
- Monitor project progress and technical issues
- Manage project milestones and identify potential risks
- Collaborate with suppliers to integrate major equipment into project designs
- Work with cross-functional teams to solve technical problems, improve opportunities, and integrate systems and controls
- Understand major equipment specifications, support procurement activities, and propose technical solutions
- Understand permitting requirements, address legal or regulatory challenges, and recommend site design improvements
- Support detailed technical assessments, engineering design reviews, and compliance verifications
- Bridge the gap between conceptual engineering and field execution while ensuring engineering best practices are followed
- Perform additional assigned duties as required
- Travel up to 25% for project-specific activities

- Professional Engineer (PE) certification preferred
- 11-15 years of experience leading engineering teams and overseeing major energy infrastructure projects
- 3+ years of experience in Solar/PV Engineering and/or Construction preferred
- Expertise in one or more of the following areas:
- Power Electronics
- Battery Storage System Design
- Substation Design
- Generation Tie Design
- Familiarity with energy storage technologies including:
- Battery chemistries
- Power conversion units
- DC/DC converters
- Familiarity with lithium-ion battery storage safety standards:
- UL1973
- UL9540
- UL9540A
- NFPA 855
- NFPA 70E
- NEC
- Applicable IFC/IBC sections
- Familiarity with IEC 61215, IEC 61646, and IEC 61730
- Ability to independently manage specialized technical assignments
- Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Plans, organizes, and manages engineering projects while balancing cost, reliability, and performance objectives
- May supervise engineering teams and oversee design development, permitting, and compliance activities
- Supports technical assessments and engineering oversight for utility-scale energy projects
- Ensures projects comply with technical specifications, safety standards, and operational requirements
- Supports stakeholder coordination, negotiations, and project success through strong leadership and communication
- Strong negotiation and stakeholder management skills
- Ability to work effectively across multidisciplinary teams
- Ability to adapt in fast-paced project environments while maintaining engineering excellence
