Project Manager-Level 2 - Experienced

Position: Project Manager-Level 2 - Experienced (6 - 10 Years)
Position Summary

The Project Manager is responsible for leading utility-scale Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) projects through development, planning, and construction readiness. This role manages technical, financial, regulatory, and commercial activities to ensure projects are optimized for successful execution and investment approval.

The position works closely with engineering, development, environmental, procurement, regulatory, and executive leadership teams to support project advancement from early-stage development through construction handoff.

Key Responsibilities

Project Development & Planning

• Lead pre-construction planning activities for utility-scale BESS projects.
• Coordinate project development activities across multiple disciplines.
• Optimize project scope, schedule, risk, and financial performance.
• Ensure project readiness for construction execution.

Technical & Financial Management

• Support engineering design development and project optimization.
• Develop and evaluate project financial models.
• Analyze market data to support project economics and investment decisions.
• Present financial models and project recommendations to leadership teams.
• Support executive budget approval processes.

Regulatory & Stakeholder Coordination

• Coordinate with environmental, regulatory, cultural, land acquisition, and interconnection teams.
• Support project permitting and regulatory compliance activities.
• Assist with Power Purchase Agreement (PPA) and Generator Interconnection Agreement (GIA) negotiations.
• Engage with regulatory agencies, local communities, and external stakeholders.

Procurement & Contract Management

• Coordinate estimating, engineering, and procurement activities.
• Source and negotiate contracts for:
  • Engineering services
  • Survey services
  • Geotechnical services
  • EPC/Construction services
• Support contract execution and vendor management.

Leadership & Reporting

• Coordinate highly matrixed project teams and stakeholders.
• Monitor project schedules, risks, and deliverables.
• Present project updates and risk mitigation strategies to management.
• Maintain project documentation, reports, and key performance indicators.
• Ensure successful transition of projects to Construction Project Managers.

Required Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in:
  • Engineering
  • Construction Management
  • Related field
  • Equivalent experience considered
• Minimum 5 years of project management experience.
• Experience supporting engineering, construction, infrastructure, or energy projects.
• Strong project management, communication, and leadership skills.
• Advanced Microsoft Excel skills.
• Strong financial, analytical, and problem-solving abilities.

  • Utility Infrastructure
• PMP Certification preferred.
• Six Sigma experience preferred.
