Senior Engineer, NERC Compliance
This position serves as the technical lead for NERC compliance readiness and the turnover of substations prior to the Commercial Operation Date (COD). The role is responsible for ensuring all applicable PRC and FAC standards are implemented, documented, and validated in accordance with internal compliance programs before energization and handover to Operations. The ideal candidate will perform engineering assignments ranging from limited to advanced complexity, requiring expertise across multiple disciplines.
Key Responsibilities
- Identify and implement applicable NERC standards for new substations, including PRC-001, PRC-004, PRC-005, PRC-019, PRC-023, PRC-024, PRC-027, FAC-008, and FAC-009.
- Validate relay settings, coordination studies, and protection philosophies to ensure compliance with PRC standards and internal requirements.
- Support the development and documentation of the Protection System Maintenance Program (PSMP) as per PRC-005.
- Ensure facility ratings are established, documented, and validated according to FAC-008 and communicated to appropriate entities per FAC-009.
- Develop and maintain audit-ready documentation, including Reliability Standard Audit Worksheets (RSAWs) and evidence packages.
- Participate in commissioning and energization activities to verify compliance implementation in the field and lead the formal compliance turnover to Operations.
- Act as the compliance liaison between Engineering, Project Management, Transmission, and Operations.
- Identify gaps between project execution and NERC compliance requirements and drive corrective actions.
Required Qualifications
Education:
A Bachelor of Science in Engineering is required.
Experience:
11 to 15 years of experience leading engineering teams and providing oversight for major energy infrastructure projects.
Technical
Skills:
Strong knowledge of NERC PRC and FAC standards. Experience with engineering design reviews, compliance verifications, and project lifecycle management for power delivery projects.
Preferred Qualifications
- A Professional Engineering (PE) certification is preferred.
- Direct experience with NERC PRC and FAC standards implementation for substations or generation interconnections.
- Strong negotiation and stakeholder management skills.
