BESS Project Engineer (Utility-Scale)

Next Era Energy is seeking a BESS Project Engineer to support the design, execution, and delivery of utility-scale battery energy storage projects. This role is highly cross-functional and focused on full project lifecycle ownership from design through commissioning and operations.

• Open to strong Project Management candidates with utility-scale experience, even if they are more PM-focused than engineering-focused.
• Candidates must have strong electrical/power systems knowledge and be comfortable speaking technically with engineering teams, OEMs, EPCs, and utilities.
• Utility-scale BESS experience is preferred; however, candidates from other utility-scale power or energy backgrounds will be considered if they meet the core technical and project execution requirements.
• P.E. license is NOT required.
• Ideal candidate will have a "Type A" personality, be highly organized, proactive, and execution-driven.

• Lead technical coordination for utility-scale BESS projects (75MW+)
• Support integration of batteries, PCS, EMS, SCADA, and MV systems
• Coordinate with OEMs, EPCs, utilities, and internal stakeholders
• Review drawings, RFIs, submittals, and technical scopes
• Support commissioning, operational readiness, and long-term system performance
• Identify project risks early and help resolve technical issues before field impact

• Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or related field preferred
• 3+ years of Solar, PV, BESS, utilities, or utility-scale energy project experience
• Strong understanding of:
  • Power systems and utility-scale electrical infrastructure
  • Inverters, protection coordination, POI integration, and harmonics
  • SCADA, EMS/Client, and substations
  • NFPA 855, UL9540/A, NEC, and IEEE standards
• Experience supporting projects through construction or commissioning strongly preferred

• Strong communicator who can bridge PM and engineering teams
• Systems-first mindset with strong execution skills
• Comfortable in fast-paced utility-scale project environments
• Able to adapt to evolving technologies, codes, and interconnection requirements
