Substation Project Engineer
We are seeking a Principal Engineer to join a Substation Engineering team. This role involves planning, monitoring, and managing internal substation projects from initiation through completion. The position requires performing engineering assignments ranging from limited scope to advanced projects that require expertise in multiple disciplines. The ideal candidate will work with increasing independence, assist with project management, and engage in decision-making, technical analysis, and project coordination.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop substation projects from conception through construction and commissioning.
- Plan, coordinate, and complete large-scale or complex projects within budgetary and scheduling guidelines.
- Secure required resources and use formal processes to manage resources, budgets, risks, and changes.
- Provide technical oversight of external engineers of record (EORs) to ensure compliance with project specifications and industry standards (IEEE, NESC, ASCE).
- Coordinate with project stakeholders to develop and secure substation sites and necessary permits.
- Support the review of interconnection documentation, including system impact studies and facility studies.
- Manage long-lead major material orders and assist with the creation of scopes of work for engineering services.
- Manage the development and review of substation design documents, including physical drawings and electrical schematics.
- Work collaboratively with multi-disciplinary project engineering resources to determine project priorities and work plans.
- Ensure projects are implemented efficiently, cost-effectively, and safely.
Required Qualifications
A Bachelor of Science in Engineering is required. 10+ years of experience in the planning, design, and execution of large-scale energy projects is required. Experience with substation design and engineering of High Voltage substation projects is highly preferred. Project Engineering and/or Project Management experience is also required. Experience with computational tools such as ETAP or EDISON. Familiarity with ASME standards, pipe stress analysis, and seismic qualification is beneficial.
Preferred Qualifications
- A Master of Science or MBA Degree is a plus.
- Professional Engineering (PE) or Project Management Professional (PMP) certification is a plus.
- Advanced experience in system integration and risk management.
This position is remote but requires reporting to the Juno Beach, Florida office bimonthly. Travel within North America will be required. Driving is a required part of the position duties.
