Operations Manager, Civil Engineering
Salary: $140,000 to $170,000 + Profit Sharing + Exceptional Benefits Construction Field Superintendent – Industrial / Power Generation
The role is based out of Central New Jersey with regular travel to active construction sites. This Project Manager role requires experience with large industrial equipment construction, such as air‑cooled heat exchangers, fin‑fan coolers, industrial furnaces, LNG liquefaction trains, liquid air energy storage systems, water treatment skids, steam surface condensers, steam generators, modular gas processing plants, etc.
You will coordinate with internal project teams and business development personnel while directing site teams, subcontractors, and client interfaces. Acts as the primary point of contact during bidding, engineering, erection, and commissioning phases. Responsibilities include preparing RFQs, evaluating construction bids, reviewing client specifications and contract requirements, and providing technical input on erection documentation and engineering drawings. Ensures adherence to schedule, quality standards, erection methodologies, and contractual milestones while maintaining strict safety and environmental compliance.
Requires comprehensive understanding of construction documentation, engineering workflows, and project controls. Travel is approximately 30% including periodic multi‑week site assignments.
- US Citizenship or US Permanent Residency (Green Card) mandatory
- 10+ years in on‑site construction management within power generation or heavy industrial sectors as a superintendent or field engineer
- Detailed, clear, and direct documentation writing style.
- Bachelor’s degree in Construction Management or related field preferred; equivalent experience acceptable
- Prior field experience as a Field Engineer and/or Superintendent strongly preferred
- Background in structural steel erection, field fabrication (ducting/stacks), or rotating equipment installation (e.g., pumps, fans, gearboxes)
- Operates effectively in both field and office environments; self‑directed with strong prioritization and commercial judgment
- Demonstrated leadership managing site teams and subcontractors; capable of navigating complex stakeholder dynamics
- Able to manage multiple concurrent projects while maintaining budget discipline and execution quality under pressure
- High attention to detail, professional conduct, and ethical decision‑making
- Experienced in subcontract negotiation, change management, back charges, and dispute resolution
- Strong written and verbal communication; capable of producing precise field reports supported by documentation and visuals
- Working knowledge of applicable codes and standards (ASME, B31.1, AWS, AISC, OSHA)
- Familiarity with QA/QC processes, commissioning, punch lists, and warranty phases
- Ability to interpret contracts, specifications, drawings, and technical documentation
- Proficiency with standard project and office software (Outlook, Word, Excel, Project, PowerPoint)
- Prepare and review construction and commissioning documentation to ensure compliance with client requirements and applicable codes
- Manage site operations remotely while overseeing field personnel and maintaining standardized procedures and reporting
- Coordinate with contractors, commissioning teams, clients, suppliers, and internal stakeholders on all site‑related matters
- Lead project meetings and produce clear, actionable documentation
- Oversee commissioning activities including mechanical systems, instrumentation, and plant startup
- Conduct site inspections, monitor progress and quality, and ensure completion of punch list and warranty items
- Maintain and manage all site documentation including RFIs, NCRs, reports, schedules, and correspondence
- Produce detailed internal reports covering progress, risks, and project metrics
- Draft and manage technical documentation including work instructions, change orders, and formal correspondence
- Support resolution of RFIs, NCRs, and change events with commercially sound outcomes
- Administer subcontractor and client contracts
- Review engineering and erection documentation for constructability and compliance
- Provide leadership, training, and oversight to field and project personnel across multiple sites
- Participate in hiring and development of project staff
- Support business development efforts through constructability reviews and client‑facing presentations
- Maintain active field presence during site assignments to monitor execution and compliance
