Make a difference in public services by serving as a second set of eyes and ears for law enforcement. Work behind the scenes in a brand new Communications Center, operating radio, teletype, Computer‑Aided Dispatch (CAD), and telephone communications devices to collect and distribute restricted, mission‑critical information to law‑enforcement officers and other public safety workers.
Responsibilities- Operate radio, teletype, CAD, and various computer and telephone systems.
- Collect and distribute restricted access, mission‑critical information to and from law‑enforcement officers and other public safety workers.
- Communicate with the public in routine and emergency situations.
- Maintain positive working relationships while performing duties in close proximity to co‑workers.
- Successfully pass pre‑employment hearing, eyesight, and psychological exams.
- Pass the NDST during the probationary period from date of hire.
- Complete Combined Law Enforcement Information Network (CLEIN) training.
- Become National Crime Information Center (NCIC) certified within twelve months from the date of hire.
- Perform additional duties as required by agency policies and procedures.
- Experience in communicating with others.
- At least 18years of age.
- Possession of a high school diploma or equivalent.
- Experience working as a communications dispatcher.
- Knowledge of radio communications signals, formats, and codes; agency policies and procedures concerning communications and information dissemination; criminal and vehicle law; geography and topography of assigned area.
- Effective verbal and written communication; ability to discern different levels of sound; rapid independent decision making while multi‑tasking; withstand workload pressures.
- Good vision to read and relay teletype messages; monitor access to communications room; verbal communication distinct, concise, and non‑emotional under extreme stress.
- Track officers on computer displays and maintain logs, manuals, and references in accordance with agency policies and FCC regulations.
- Skill in operating communication center equipment and retrieving information from CAD, NCIC, NLETS, and NBLETS.
