Dispatcher

Location:

North Platte, NE
Salary: $22.917

Operates radio, teletype, CAD, and telephone communication devices to collect and distribute restricted, mission‑critical information between law‑enforcement officers and other public‑safety workers. Communicates with the public in routine and emergency situations while maintaining positive working relationships with co‑workers.

Pre‑employment Requirements

Applicants must pass hearing, eyesight, psychological exams, NDST, and combined CLEIN training. They must become NCIC certified within twelve months of hire. Failure to meet these requirements will result in termination.

Minimum Qualifications
  • Experience communicating with others.
  • Minimum age 18 years.
  • High‑school diploma or equivalent.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience as a communications dispatcher.
Other Requirements

  • Regular and reliable attendance is expected.
  • Applicants will be screened for criminal activity via a fingerprint‑based check before a final offer.
  • Applicants must have no felony convictions and cannot maintain associations with persons or organizations under investigation or indictment.
  • Applicants must complete an extensive background screening, including a Personal History Questionnaire, before employment.
  • Selection process will include an interview; a facility tour may be scheduled prior to interview.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Knowledge of
  • Radio communications signals, formats, and codes.
  • Agency policies, rules, and regulations regarding communications and information dissemination.
  • Agency policies and procedures concerning emergency and non‑emergency situations.
  • Criminal and vehicle law and related terminology.
  • Geography and topography of the assigned area, including major highways, intersections, and landmarks.
Abilities
  • Communicate verbally and in writing.
  • Discern various sound levels and listen to phone conversations or radio over background noise.
  • Make rapid independent decisions while multi‑tasking.
  • Withstand workload pressures.
  • Possess good vision for reading and relaying teletype messages.
  • Track reading and relaying of teletype messages.
  • Track officers on computer displays.
  • Monitor access to the communications room via television monitor, etc.
  • Communicate information distinctly, concisely, and non‑emotionally under extreme stress.
  • Communicate effectively with people from all sectors under diverse and often stressful circumstances.
  • Maintain logs, manuals, and references in accordance with agency policies and FCC regulations.
Skills
  • Operate communication center equipment.
  • Enter and retrieve information from CAD, NCIC, NLETS, and NBLETS.
