Preschool Paraprofessional

The Preschool Paraprofessional supports the preschool teacher in providing a safe, nurturing, and developmentally appropriate learning environment for young children. The paraprofessional assists with instruction, supervision, behavior support, and daily classroom operations to promote the academic, social-emotional, physical, and language development of preschool students.

Student Support
  • Assist the teacher in implementing daily lessons and activities.
  • Work with individual students and small groups to reinforce learning concepts and skills.
  • Support students in developing social, emotional, communication, and self-help skills.
  • Assist students with transitions, routines, and classroom expectations.
  • Provide support for students with disabilities and implement accommodations as directed.
Classroom Support
  • Prepare instructional materials, learning centers, and classroom resources.
  • Assist with maintaining an organized, clean, and safe classroom environment.
  • Support classroom management and positive behavior interventions.
  • Monitor students during classroom activities, recess, meals, and field trips.
  • Assist with attendance, record keeping, and other clerical duties as assigned.
Health and Safety
  • Supervise students to ensure their safety and well-being.
  • Assist students with toileting, handwashing, feeding, and other personal care needs as required.
  • Follow district procedures regarding student health, safety, and emergency situations.
  • Maintain confidentiality regarding student information.
Collaboration
  • Work collaboratively with teachers, special education staff, therapists, administrators, and families.
  • Participate in staff meetings, training sessions, and professional development activities.
  • Communicate student concerns and observations to the classroom teacher.
Additional Responsibilities
  • Assist with arrival and dismissal procedures.
  • Support family engagement activities and special events.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the teacher, coordinator, or administrator.
Qualifications Required
  • High school diploma or GED.
  • Meets Nebraska paraprofessional requirements as established by district policy and state regulations.
  • Ability to work effectively with young children and adults.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and professionalism.
Preferred
  • Associate degree or coursework in Early Childhood Education, Child Development, or a related field.
  • Experience working with preschool-aged children.
  • Experience supporting children with diverse learning and developmental needs.
  • CPR and First Aid certification or willingness to obtain certification.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Knowledge of child development and age-appropriate practices.
  • Ability to establish positive relationships with students and families.
  • Ability to follow directions and work as part of a team.
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks and maintain flexibility in a dynamic environment.
Physical Requirements
  • Frequent standing, walking, bending, kneeling, and lifting.
  • Ability to lift and assist children weighing up to 50 pounds.
  • Ability to participate in indoor and outdoor activities with students.
  • Ability to respond quickly in emergency situations.
Terms of Employment
  • Work calendar, hours, salary, and benefits established by the Board of Education and district policies.
  • Employment contingent upon successful completion of required background checks.
Evaluation

Performance will be evaluated annually according to district procedures and supervisory expectations.
