Job Description:
Are you interested in a flexible schedule and healthy work/life balance? If so, we have a great opportunity for you! The Nebraska Department of Agriculture is looking for a teammate to serve with our Food Safety Consumer Protection Team as a Dairy Inspector.
The Dairy Program team conducts on-site inspections of dairy farms, milk haulers, manufacturing plants, and fluid milk bottling plants. The program provides a comprehensive inspection program that goes from farm to consumer assuring a safe and wholesome supply of dairy products for consumers. As a Dairy Inspector, you will be responsible for inspections for compliance with the Nebraska Milk Act.
This position serves primarily Eastern NebraskaA State vehicle is provided; you can look forward to eliminating that commute to work. Job Duties:
Conduct inspections of Milk Haulers, Grade A Farms, Producers, and Manufacturing Plants for compliance with the Nebraska Milk Act Complete necessary sampling in partnership with NDA’s Food and Dairy Lab Take appropriate action if an eminent health threat to the public is identified
Support stakeholders in the Application for Dairy Permit process
Maintain a positive and professional relationship with the Dairy Industry Work cooperatively with FDA partners
Participate in educational opportunities including training and conferences
Other duties as assigned
Requirements / Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications:
Federal certification as a Milk Sanitation Rating Officer and federal certification as a Milk Sampling Surveillance Officer in order to comply with requirements established by the Nebraska Pasteurized Milk Law, Section 2-3975, Procedures Governing the Cooperative State-Public Health Service/Food and Drug Administration Program for Certification of Interstate Milk Shippers, 1979 Revision, Sections III C and III D, and by Section 41-104, Revised Statutes of Nebraska, 1943 Revision.
Other:
This position requires overnight and/or regular daily travel, as such a valid driver's license is required. Regular and reliable attendance is required. Preferred residence in Southeast Nebraska.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
Knowledge of: dairy industry; the principles and techniques of inspections;
Nebraska Milk Act Skill in: effective communication, time management, planning and organization, problem-solving, critical thinking
Ability to: establish rapport with stakeholders; communicate with the public and businesses; interpret and apply policies, procedures, and standards; make decisions and seek solutions; work independently with little supervision; prioritize work in an efficient manner; compile and interpret inspection data; work in inclement temperatures and environments exposed to infectious diseases and toxic/hazardous substances
