DescriptionThe Clinic Registered Nurse is responsible for checking patients in upon arrival, obtaining vital signs, reviewing medical records, ensuring supplies and sterile rooms, triaging phone calls, supporting physicians with in‑office procedures, and administering logs such as refrigeration control and medication distribution.
Minimum Qualifications- Graduate of an accredited nursing program.
- Current, valid RN license in state of practice, temporary RN license, or compact RN licensure for current state. BLS certification required. Additional certification or continuing education may be required based on area of practice.
General private physician office setting. Open office arrangement with some exposure to noise. Exposure to patients in various mental states (sugar imbalance) which may result in physical or verbal abuse.
Physical DemandsMust be able to stand, walk, bend, squat, reach, stretch frequently, possess agility, adequate hearing, visual acuity, fine motor skills, and ability to handle objects. May need to lift up to 75 pounds. Use proper body mechanics for patient ambulation and transfers. Must use standard precautions due to threat of exposure to blood and bodily fluids. Adequate communication skills required, may require periodic use of personal computer.
EssentialFunctions
- Ensures quality patient care and adheres to provider preferences.
- Explains procedures, treatments, and reinforces provider recommendations to patients using the AIDET process.
- Provides prescribed sample medications in accordance with approved nursing techniques.
- Administers injections/immunizations as prescribed by providers.
- Uses EHR to record visit data (vital signs, ROS, medication lists, etc.) and provides point‑of‑care testing.
- Records test results, reports, and other procedural documentation in patient chart and reports to providers for further instructions or sign off.
- Maintains sample medications by logging their receipt. Documents sample medications in the patient’s chart.
- Sends written, verbal or computer‑generated requests for prescription refills to pharmacies as requested by provider.
- Tracks lab and procedure orders and communicates clinical data/test/procedure results accurately to the healthcare team.
- Initiates a patient education plan as prescribed by physician or clinic policy.
- Communicates and instructs plan of care to patient/family/guardians, documenting understanding in the patient’s chart.
- Completes and documents patient phone calls in the patient’s chart.
- Assists with office procedures as requested by physician.
- Administers IV/medications/treatments/procedures as prescribed by physician under scope of practice.
