Wharton-Smith, Inc. is seeking an experienced Superintendent with a strong background in commercial construction and a passion for community-focused projects
, including renovations and new builds for schools, fire stations, municipal facilities, and other public service buildings
.

The Superintendent will provide overall leadership and direction for all on-site construction activities, ensuring that safety, quality, schedule, and budget objectives are consistently achieved. This individual will serve as the primary field leader, coordinating field personnel, subcontractors, and client representatives to deliver projects that strengthen and serve the local community.

Key Responsibilities Field Leadership & Project Execution
  • Provide day-to-day direction and supervision of all on-site field operations.
  • Manage field staff, foremen, subcontractors, and suppliers to ensure alignment with project goals, schedules, and quality standards.
  • Develop short-term schedules, coordinate subcontractor activities, and oversee field productivity.
  • Conduct daily coordination and pre-task meetings to maintain clear communication and proactive planning.
  • Lead and mentor Assistant Superintendents and field personnel.
Safety & Quality Management
  • Champion Wharton-Smith’s culture of safety across all project activities.
  • Implement and enforce company and regulatory safety policies, procedures, and training.
  • Ensure proper documentation and completion of safety forms, inspections, and compliance reports.
  • Monitor workmanship and materials to verify conformance with contract documents and project specifications.
Project Coordination & Administration
  • Coordinate permit and regulatory inspections with local authorities and project stakeholders.
  • Manage field documentation including daily reports, progress photos, and material logs.
  • Oversee layout, site logistics, and material delivery coordination to maintain efficient workflow.
  • Support development and enforcement of subcontract scopes of work.
  • Maintain accurate records of in-place quantities and As-Built drawings.
  • Participate in post-construction reviews and project closeout activities.
Client & Stakeholder Relations
  • Serve as the primary on-site contact for owners, architects, engineers, and inspectors.
  • Foster strong relationships built on trust, transparency, and consistent communication.
  • Represent Wharton-Smith with professionalism and integrity throughout all phases of construction.
Qualifications
  • High School Diploma or equivalent required; additional construction or technical education preferred.
  • 5+ years of commercial construction supervision experience, including community-focused projects (K-12 schools, higher education facilities, fire stations, municipal buildings, or public safety projects).
  • Strong understanding of both vertical and horizontal construction methods.
  • Current certifications in OSHA 10 & 30 Hour, First Aid & CPR, SWPPP, Silica, Risk Management & Accident Prevention preferred.
  • Competent Person training in trenching, scaffolding, rigging, confined space, and fall protection preferred.
  • Excellent communication, leadership, and problem-solving skills.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Outlook, Word, and Excel; experience with Project Management Software (PMIS) preferred.
  • Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation to travel between project sites.
