Job Summary

The Shutter Punchout Technician is responsible for performing final inspections, adjustments, and repairs on hurricane shutters to ensure proper functionality and customer satisfaction. This role requires strong technical expertise, attention to detail, and the ability to troubleshoot and resolve issues effectively. The technician collaborates with installation teams, follows company quality standards, and ensures all work meets safety guidelines. In addition, this position serves as a mentor to Shutter Installer Trainees and Helpers, providing guidance, hands‑on support, and reinforcement of proper techniques, safety practices, and quality expectations.

Strong communication skills are essential for interacting with customers, supporting field teams, and addressing concerns on‑site.

Key Responsibilities
  • Perform final inspections, adjustments, and repairs on hurricane shutters to ensure proper operation, quality, and appearance.
  • Troubleshoot mechanical and installation issues and complete corrective work as needed.
  • Test shutter systems to confirm functionality, alignment, and safety.
  • Ensure all work meets Storm Smart quality standards, safety guidelines, and local building codes.
  • Mentor and support Shutter Installer Trainees and Helpers by providing hands‑on guidance and reinforcing proper techniques and safety practices.
  • Communicate professionally with customers, addressing concerns and explaining completed work.
  • Partner with installation teams and supervisors to resolve punch‑out items and recurring issues.
  • Maintain clean, safe job sites and proper care of tools and equipment.
  • Complete punch‑out documentation, photos, and reports accurately and on time.
  • Consistently represent Storm Smart’s brand, values, and service standards on every job.
  • Manage a daily schedule with multiple stops a day.
  • Complete final punch‑out on all types of hurricane shutters.
  • Communicate any issues with jobs to supervisors.
  • Address any customer concerns with minor defects.
  • Communicate with Punchout scheduler.
Required Skills & Abilities
  • Climbing all types of ladders and scaffolding.
  • Basic tool and construction knowledge.
  • Ability to lift sixty pounds.
  • Technical experience in shutter installation, repair, or a related field.
  • Problem‑solving skills and attention to detail.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Familiarity with safety protocols and tools used in shutter installation.
Education / Experience / Licenses / Certifications
  • High school diploma or equivalent required; technical training or vocational coursework in construction, mechanical systems, or a related field preferred.
  • Minimum of 1–3 years of hands‑on experience installing, servicing, inspecting, or repairing hurricane shutters, impact products, or similar construction‑related systems.
  • Prior experience performing punch‑out, quality control, service, or warranty work strongly preferred.
  • Working knowledge of shutter systems, installation methods, hardware, and adjustment techniques.
  • Proven ability to troubleshoot mechanical or installation‑related issues and implement effective repairs.
