Senior Analyst, Business Operations
Reports to the Senior Vice President of Clinical Services and supports a system‑wide portfolio of surgical and ambulatory services across Massachusetts and Rhode Island. The role partners with clinical, operational, and administrative leaders to drive operational and financial performance through business planning, detailed analysis, and market data integration.
Responsibilities- Operate effectively within a highly matrixed organization, providing operational analytics and decision support to senior leadership.
- Partner with clinical and operational directors to manage budgets, monitor performance, and identify actionable opportunities to improve revenue, access, and efficiency.
- Provide hands‑on support to address operational challenges, interpreting, prioritizing, and acting on data.
- Challenge assumptions and influence decision‑making based on financial and operational insight.
- Lead business assessment processes, including business plan development, market and competitive analysis, Case Mix Index (CMI) evaluation, and identification of contribution margin improvement opportunities.
- Assess cost/benefit scenarios, such as outsourcing or process redesign, to capture high‑value opportunities and improve financial performance.
- Integrate clinical workflow understanding with financial analysis to ensure analytical recommendations are grounded in operational reality.
- Facilitate stakeholder engagement with leadership to identify ways to improve operations, expense savings, revenue cycle, and process improvement.
- Lead execution of high‑impact initiatives to improve efficiency, throughput, and overall performance, partnering across clinical, supply chain, and operational teams.
- Develop robust financial and operational models using internal data and industry benchmarks; support site‑of‑care optimization, service line performance improvement, and strategic growth planning.
- Drive revenue and performance improvement by identifying and quantifying opportunities for growth, capacity expansion, and performance optimization; track outcomes tied to measurable improvements.
- Communicate and present complex data clearly, develop recommendations, and present findings to senior leadership, incorporating feedback.
- Partner with finance to conduct detailed analyses informing operational strategy, growth planning, capital investments, expense management, and revenue enhancement opportunities.
- Support the annual budgeting process and ongoing financial performance management, reviewing variance reports and preparing written reports and presentations.
- Bachelor’s degree required;
Master’s preferred (equivalent experience considered). - Minimum 5 years of progressively complex experience in healthcare operations.
- Deep analytical experience in healthcare operations, particularly in ambulatory and/or clinical service lines.
- Strong analytical expertise linking financial performance to clinical and operational drivers.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities, work independently, and deliver high‑quality results in a fast‑paced environment.
- Familiarity with service line administration, preferably in an academic medical center, multi‑hospital, or outpatient practice setting.
- Proven skill translating between financial data and clinical operations, including access, throughput, and provider productivity drivers.
- Superior financial skills, including accounting, forecasting, and a track record of analyses supporting operational results.
- Highly effective communication, management, and leadership skills.
- Demonstrated ability to collaborate with high‑performing teams and influence change across a complex health care environment.
- Strong relationship‑building skills with physicians, clinicians, administrators, and executive leadership.
- Experience in program development, business management, and analysis.
