Job DescriptionNorth Providence Public Schools is seeking to hire Substitute Paraprofessionals.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Assist students academically in all settings on a daily basis.
- Assist students with all daily living activities including but not limited to: mobility, feeding, toileting, hygiene, and lifting students during transfers and repositioning as necessary.
- Provide escort and physical assistance to students as necessary.
- Assist students with transitioning on and off the school bus upon arrival and dismissal.
- Help maintain individual records for students inclusive of completed Medicaid documentation.
- Guide students in developing positive relationships with peers and adults.
- Assist with the supervision of students during student free time.
- Assist teachers in maintaining work and study areas.
- Collect and display suitable material for educational displays.
- Under the direction of the assigned teacher(s), develop learning materials and group lessons; adapt learning materials to meet the needs of individuals with different ability levels, learning styles, or cultural/linguistic backgrounds; and correct and prescribe students' work to remediate students' weaknesses.
- Attend meetings to help organize programs of instruction and discuss problematic students and situations.
- Participate in discipline procedures and prescribe consequences for student behavior, with supervision.
- Utilize de‑escalation techniques acquired from the District-approved training to assist students when met with a challenge by physical needs such as outbursts, running, etc.
- Work with students in the community to assist with transition goals as necessary.
- Maintain a cooperative working relationship with all personnel, agencies and community partners.
- Assist teachers as a member of the Instructional Team in developing and using appropriate strategies and techniques (develop materials and provide group lessons).
- Assist teachers in devising special strategies for reinforcing positive behavior based upon a sympathetic understanding of individual students, their needs, interests, and abilities.
- Serve as the chief source of information to help any substitute teacher assigned on any given day.
- Other related duties as assigned by classroom teachers, school Principal and/or the Director of Student Services and/or his/her designee(s).
