Opportunity
WSP seeks a Lead Structural Engineer to support our North Providence, RI office. This position may be based in New York City, NY or North Providence, RI and will work with the Property and Buildings Team on complex building projects across multiple sectors.
Responsibilities- Provide high‑level technical assistance and guidance for multi‑site/phased due diligence, investigation, remediation, improvement, and/or construction projects.
- Research, design, concept development, planning, and construction of load‑bearing structures or structural elements.
- Ensure deliverables meet or exceed industry standards for safety, structural soundness, and functionality.
- Create construction plans, specifications, cost estimates, safety and phasing plans, and coordinate updated layout plans with owners, other disciplines, sub‑consultants, and clients.
- Manage project phases from inception to completion, ensuring durability, compliance with codes, and regulatory requirements.
- Apply advanced technologies, monitoring devices, materials, modeling techniques, and design requirements to enhance safety and functionality.
- Lead cross‑functional teams of engineers, architects, planners, and scientists; oversee budgets, hours, expenses, and technical calculations.
- Review and approve building and infrastructure design plans, ensuring data integrity and code compliance.
- Prepare data visualizations (tables, charts, reports, sketches, calculations, cross‑sections, 2D/3D illustrations) for presentation.
- Write technical reports and presentations explaining research, concepts, and recommendations.
- Analyze site investigation data and develop risk mitigation plans.
- Implement site Health and Safety Plans (HASPs).
- Interact professionally with regulatory agencies, subcontractors, and clients.
- Collaborate with other engineers and authorities on federal, state, regional, local, and privately funded projects, including business development opportunities.
- Stay current with latest structural engineering techniques and practices.
- Act responsibly and ethically regarding company resources; adhere to WSP’s Code of Conduct and related policies.
- Perform additional responsibilities as required by business needs.
- Bachelor’s Degree in Structural or Civil Engineering, or closely related discipline.
- 7–10 years of relevant post‑graduate engineering experience, including structural or civil design.
- Professional Engineer license required.
- Proficiency with structural engineering principles, practices, processes, design/build.
- Experience in building structural planning, design, and construction management, including rehabilitation, new design, and construction projects.
- Knowledge of sustainability practices and reduction of hazardous substances/greenhouse gas emissions.
- Strong understanding of structural and civil construction laws, codes, compliance practices, and record‑keeping.
- Ability to perform technical computations and analysis based on engineering principles and regulations.
- Experience in planning and conducting inspections and investigations of building and structural construction.
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills; ability to convey ideas to engineering and non‑engineering audiences.
- High level of self‑leadership, multi‑tasking, and prioritization in a dynamic environment.
- Ability to work independently with minimal oversight while guiding junior team members and maintaining QA/QC.
- Proficiency in technical writing, office automation, structural software (e.g., ETABS, RAM), BIM, spreadsheets, and tools.
- Strong critical thinking, problem solving, and data analysis skills.
- Experience coordinating subcontractors and ensuring safe, efficient task completion.
- Track record of upholding workplace safety and adherence to WSP’s health, safety, and drug/alcohol and harassment policies.
- Availability for schedules that may extend beyond the typical workweek.
- Occasional travel may be required.
- Master’s Degree in Engineering (structural).
- Structural Engineering license.

CompensationExpected Salary (all locations): $130,000–$165,000. Compensation may vary based on education, experience, and location.
