Job DescriptionThe J. Turner Hood Elementary School is seeking a full year Special Education Teacher Long-Term Substitute for the school year 2026‑2027. North Reading Public Schools is actively looking to build a diverse workforce to ensure all students feel welcome, safe, and valued for who they are and to support them in reaching their potential.
This assignment is tentatively from hire date through June 17, 2027 (the anticipated last day of the 2026‑2027 school year). Educators’ first contractual day is September 1, 2026. New educators are required to attend the two‑day new staff orientation on dates still to be determined.
Essential duties
- Direct instruction of students
- Monitor student progress on an ongoing basis
- Serve as the IEP liaison for students in the classroom, and complete all associated state‑mandated paperwork, including progress reports and chairing annual review meetings
- Conduct three‑year re‑evaluation testing and other testing as appropriate
- Support student inclusion opportunities through the implementation of behavior intervention plans, and appropriate engagement strategies
- Maintain and manage all the required responsibilities of the special education process including academic, behavioral, and social skill instruction
- Data collection and analysis
- Testing
- Collaborate with general education teachers and special education staff
- Attend faculty and department meetings as directed
- Collaborate with parents/guardians and outside providers
- Other duties as determined by the building Principal, Director of Student Services, or their designee
Requirements
- Bachelor's Degree in a related field
- Massachusetts Department of Elementary and Secondary Education teaching license in Students with Moderate Disabilities, grades PreK‑8
- Strong interpersonal skills
- Collaborative working demeanor
- Excellent oral and written communication skills
- Citizenship, residency, or work visa required
- At least 1 year of relevant experience preferred
- Bachelor degree preferred
