North Reading High School is seeking a Long‑Term Substitute Special Education Teacher from September 1, 2026 through December 23, 2026. North Reading Public Schools is actively looking to build a diverse workforce to ensure all students feel welcome, safe, and valued for who they are and supported to reach their potential.
This unique position also serves as the academic coordinator for the high school Bridge program. In this role you will provide holistic support of students socially, emotionally, and academically.
Essential Duties- Provide direct instruction, support, curriculum modifications, and accommodations for students with learning challenges in an inclusion/co‑taught setting.
- Serve as Academic Liaison between students, educators, counselors, administrators, and other identified stakeholders with a primary focus on students in the Bridge program.
- Monitor student make‑up work and create plans with students for support of successful completion and transition back to class.
- Serve as student liaison, complete special education evaluations, develop appropriate IEPs in conjunction with students’ teams, and lead annual team meetings.
- Provide consultation to general education staff, including but not limited to, collaborating on student re‑entry to class and student learning needs.
- Support students in self‑advocacy.
- Serve as a special education teacher in substantially separate/small group model classes for students with specific learning disabilities, Autism spectrum disorder, and/or other learning challenges.
- Unit/lesson planning.
- Assessment of student learning and tracking of academic progress.
- Be available to conference with parents and families as needed or requested.
- Work closely with instructional and special education teams to ensure pacing and learning expectations are maintained.
- Collaborate with the student, family, community resources, service providers, educators, school counselor, administration, and school nurse.
- Other duties as requested by the Building Principal or their Designee.
- Bachelor’s Degree in a related field.
- Massachusetts Department of Elementary and Secondary Education teaching license in Teacher of Students with Moderate Disabilities, grades 5‑12.
- Possess a strong mental health background and/or experience.
- Successful history of handling stressful/challenging moments with students.
- Strong interpersonal skills.
- Collaborative working demeanor.
- Excellent oral and written communication skills.
- At least 3 years of relevant experience preferred.
- Citizenship, residency, or work visa required.
