Coordinator of Humanities Education

North Reading Public Schools (NRPS) is seeking a highly qualified and experienced Coordinator of Humanities Education to lead and support English Language Arts, Literacy, and History and Social Sciences in the district. The coordinator will guide educators, students, and the community in expanding and enriching humanities opportunities.

Essential Duties
  • Provide system-wide leadership in English Language Arts & Literacy and History and Social Sciences
    • Plan and implement district-wide professional development related to humanities in collaboration with curriculum leaders and building administrators
    • Chair committees on humanities curriculum and assessments
    • Facilitate increased opportunities for humanities vertical alignment K-12
    • Present to School Councils on humanities related goals and activities and help with the development of school improvement plans related to humanities goals
    • Support building principals in leading hiring committees for positions related to humanities
    • Lead and facilitate History and Social Science & English Language Arts Curriculum Councils
    • Lead the development of new graduation requirements (assessments, portfolios, etc.)
  • Support teachers in humanities areas through supervision and evaluation, coaching, and modeling
    • Share and report to staff at department and faculty meetings
    • Solicit feedback from faculty on curricular planning
    • Assist with collaboration and common planning meetings and best instructional practices (peer coaching, peer observation, supporting new teachers, assistance with standards-based report cards)
    • Engage and share with staff experiences from regional committees and job-alike groups related to the respective subject area responsibility, including but not limited to humanities summit, humanities pipeline, etc.
    • Serve as a supervising evaluator for identified educators
  • Collect and analyze data
    • Serve on the school and district data teams
    • Assist building instructional staff and teachers in the assessment of student performance
    • Analyze and interpret system-wide data from student assessments for continuous improvement
    • Make recommendations of best practices based on data
  • With input from curriculum leaders and in collaboration with building administrators grades 6-12
    • Develop and implement departmental goals to support the school and district improvement plans
    • Update the program of studies
    • Support building principals’ development and management of school budgets
    • Coordinate scheduling of courses and staff assignments
    • Facilitate department meetings and departmental professional development
  • Coordinate tools and resources
    • Place orders for supplies and materials
    • Inventory books, materials, software, and resources for English Language Arts and History and Social Sciences classes
    • Coordinate and support the Civics Action Project – including showcase
    • Coordinate and support the Seal of Biliteracy
    • Coordinate with the Assistant Superintendent and Digital Learning Coordinator on all grants related to humanities
  • Act as the liaison between schools and the community for humanities events (humanities fairs, colleges, businesses)
  • Support strategies for interventions and tiered supports for all students in the humanities disciplines (MTSS)
  • Participate in after-school meetings and a three-day summer retreat
  • Teaching responsibilities as needed and discussed in advance, including competency determination supports
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the Assistant Superintendent or their designee
Qualifications
  • Master’s degree with emphasis on content expertise in humanities fields and educational leadership
  • Massachusetts DESE license – supervisor/director in core English Language Arts or core History and Social Sciences preferred; and teacher in English and/or History and Social Sciences grades 5-12, humanities preferred
  • Demonstrated leadership experience and ability to work with staff at all levels
  • Experience and expertise as an effective communicator and collaborator
  • Knowledge of principles and practices of educational leadership
  • Experience with supervision and evaluation (preferred)
  • Demonstrated knowledge and expertise in humanities education in an educational setting with at least 3 years of relevant classroom experience (preferred)
  • Citizenship, residency, or work visa required
Benefits and Compensation

Position Type:
Full-Time. Salary: $112,807 to $128,728 Per Year.
