Job | Services LLC
Amazon's Industrial Robotics Group is looking for a Facilities and Tool Install leader to own the buildout, maintenance, and operations of our development facilities, as well as manufacturing equipment integration to the R&D facilities and factory. This is a builder role for a leader who thrives in the ambiguity of a ‘zero-to-one’ development and manufacturing environment. You will own the physical transformation of the site, leading retrofit construction and the complex tool install scope to bring facilities online and dynamically evolve them to meet engineering needs.
You will sit at the intersection of construction, manufacturing engineering, and R&D, ensuring that our facility is not just a building, but a dynamic instrument that accelerates our engineering velocity while embodying Amazon's Leadership Principles.
- Lead end-to-end execution of facility retrofits, construction projects, and equipment installations, serving as primary interface between internal stakeholders, equipment vendors, and construction contractors
- Build and lead the Tool Install organization (15-20 professionals) responsible for equipment layouts, installation, commissioning, maintenance, and operational support
- Own the physical transformation of development and manufacturing sites, optimizing facility layouts and construction approaches through first-principles thinking
- Partner with R&D and Manufacturing Engineers to define equipment layouts and utility requirements (power, air, process cooling) aligned with manufacturing and R&D roadmaps
- Design, deploy, and operate a rapid-response internal machine shop with CNC machining, fabrication, and prototyping capabilities
- Enable rapid development cycles through dynamic facility capabilities and efficient modifications, supporting product development timelines with hour-to-hour planning during critical phases
- Own facility operations and maintenance, including preventive maintenance programs, spare parts management, equipment reliability initiatives, and sustaining activities
- Manage specialized trade contractors (electricians, pipe fitters, riggers) and manufacturing equipment vendors, establishing preferred vendor relationships
- Control capital budget (Cap Ex) for facility upgrades and equipment installation ($10M+ annual budget), driving cost optimization and vendor performance improvements
- Establish safety-first culture, data-driven maintenance programs, and regulatory compliance systems across all operations
- 6+ years of hiring, leading and developing teams experience
- 10+ years of experience in facilities operations, equipment maintenance, or complex tool installation (automotive, battery, or mission‑critical military environment)
- Demonstrated experience managing brownfield retrofits or bringing new industrial R&D labs online
- Experience setting up or managing technical workshops/machine shops (CNC, fabrication, prototyping)
- Proficiency in reading and approving technical drawings (P&, architectural layouts)
- Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Computer Science or a related technical field
