Opportunity Overview
We are seeking a Mechanical Engineer to contribute to a variety of machine design and product development initiatives for our next generation System Level Test and Storage platforms. The ideal candidate will create innovative, scalable technical solutions to medium‑to‑high complexity engineering problems. Additionally, this candidate will work across functional boundaries to identify essential requirements, tradeoffs, and key technical risks while working with product development teams from conceptualization through detailed design implementation and transfer to high-volume manufacturing.
- Translate requirements from multiple stakeholders into clear engineering specifications and design tradeoffs.
- Define and communicate system architectures for complex machine designs, including static electromechanical systems and systems with integrated automation.
- Partner with cross‑functional teams through clear communication, technical guidance, project scheduling, BOM creation, and change management.
- Design industrial and automated equipment using sound engineering principles, including:
- Universal, dedicated, or multifunction automation for application specific tasks
- Mechanisms for low and high cycle applications
- High reliability end effect or designs
- Interfaces for production testing and adjacent material handling systems
- Failsafe features and safety compliant system operation
- System performance optimization (e.g., throughput)
- Develop electromechanical packaging solutions involving sheet metal, PCBA constraints, cable routing, and thermal management strategies.
- Manage external partners effectively, both turnkey providers and subcontractors contributing to larger system solutions.
- Minimum B.S. in Mechanical Engineering with at least 8 years of experience in machine design. Masters in Mechanical Engineering preferred.
- Works independently with minimal guidance toward medium and long term objectives.
- Ability to rapidly conceptualize designs in CAD and communicate ideas effectively.
- Demonstrates rigorous engineering discipline through analytical design validation and thorough requirements coverage.
- Strong fundamentals in machine design, including:
- FEA, tolerance analysis, precision alignment
- Selection of actuators, bearings, sensors, materials, and finishes
- Experience with motion control or automation systems preferred.
- Experience or familiarity with injection molding preferred.
- Knowledge of DFM, outsourced assembly, serviceability considerations, and safety compliance.
- High proficiency in Solid Works, PDM, enterprise/MRP systems, and part/assembly drawing and BOM creation.
