Opportunity Overview
We are seeking a highly motivated and collaborative Mechanical Engineer to support our Silicon Photonics Engineering group in North Reading, MA. Development occurs in a dynamic and challenging global multi-site environment.
You will lead and/or participate in platform product development initiatives within our Silicon Photonics product team. In the SiPh Engineering group, we focus on developing state-of-the-art Optical Instruments for our Semiconductor Test Equipment products. This optical test equipment is essential for the massive expansion in AI that the industry is currently experiencing.
You will create innovative and sound technical solutions to complex engineering problems. You will also identify essential requirements and key technical risks. You will work closely with Electrical Engineers, Systems Engineers, and Optical Engineers to design solutions for New Product Introduction and High-Volume Manufacturing.
- Lead internal design reviews and oversee technical aspects of assigned projects. Help to identify and communicate project resource needs
- Assume a leadership role in system & sub-system design efforts. Work with Systems Engineering team to help define sub-systems, establish technical direction, and develop product strategies and long-term product roadmaps
- Provide leadership and collaborate with other development teams in providing communication to management on the topics of technical guidance, trade-off analysis, project scheduling, project costs, budgeting, and change management
- Develop detailed mechanical designs using 3D CAD, along with creating 2D fabrication drawings
- Create Engineering Change & Release documents (ECN / ECO)
- Build, debug, and test prototype designs
- Assist NPI team with the build and debug of customer early access units
- Collaboration with procurement & supply chain to identify alternative vendors and suppliers

- Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering; advanced degree a plus
- 5+ years of experience in the design and manufacture of complex electro-mechanical systems
- Mechanical product development and design experience to include:
- Solidworks for 3D CAD modeling & drawing creation
- Performing FEA using either Solidworks Simulation or Ansys Workbench
- Solidworks EPDM for CAD data management
- PLM Software like Team Center or Wind Chill for change management.
- Experience authoring ECN / ECO’s
- Knowledge of basic GD&T standards
- Ability to generate detailed mechanical drawings
- Ability to create 2D schematic, cable and harness drawings
- Ability to select OEM mechanical components based upon requirements documentation
- Familiarity with traditional manufacturing & machining methods
- Excellent troubleshooting, debugging and problem-solving skills
- Ability to work on complex issues and creatively resolve them with minimum direction
- Understanding of CE, UL, SEMI, ISO, NFPA and other relevant product design and safety standards
- Ability to travel domestically or internationally (up to 20%)
The base salary range for this role is $100,000-$194,700. This range is a good faith estimate, and the amount of base salary will correspond with experience and skill set. This range can also fluctuate depending on demand and location.
Incentive PlanThis job is eligible for discretionary bonus(es) based on financial performance.
