Camera Image Quality Tuning Engineer

Job Description

This role focuses on optimizing and delivering superior camera image quality across a portfolio of consumer devices, with a strong emphasis on Qualcomm and Media Tek platforms. You will perform end-to-end camera tuning, analyze images captured under diverse conditions, and refine image processing parameters to meet clearly defined quality standards for end users. Working closely with validation and cross-functional teams, you will use established tools, processes, and KPIs to ensure that every image meets the expected quality benchmarks.

Responsibilities

* Perform end-to-end camera tuning on Qualcomm and Media Tek platforms for consumer devices.

* Optimize image quality parameters for a wide range of lighting conditions and real-world use cases.

* Configure and refine image processing parameters such as sharpening, noise reduction, and color reproduction.

* Use Qualcomm and Media Tek camera tuning tools and simulation tools to analyze and improve image quality.

* Evaluate image quality using both objective metrics and subjective visual assessment.

* Capture and analyze images under various lighting conditions and test scenarios to validate tuning changes.

* Understand and anticipate how image processing algorithms will affect overall image quality and user perception.

* Run simulations on RAW images to determine the best tuning strategies for different use cases.

* Set, follow, and help refine KPIs and processes to ensure image quality targets are consistently met under defined lighting conditions.

* Develop and execute test plans, test cases, and test procedures for camera image quality validation.

* Use lab equipment and test fixtures for camera testing and controlled image capture.

* Create, maintain, and update tuning documentation, including test results and tuning reports.

* Tune images generated from devices when hardware or lens changes occur, ensuring the sharpness profile and overall quality remain optimal.

* Follow established standard operating procedures (SOPs) to ensure each image meets predefined quality expectations.

* Collaborate with validation and other technical teams to verify image quality improvements and resolve image quality issues.

* Identify common image quality issues and apply appropriate solutions based on domain expertise.

* Distinguish clearly between good and poor image quality and communicate findings and recommendations effectively.

Essential Skills

* Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, or a related field.

* 3+ years of hands-on experience in mobile camera tuning.

* Proven experience with Qualcomm Snapdragon platforms and camera tuning tools, or Media Tek platforms and camera tuning tools.

* Strong proficiency in end-to-end camera tuning workflows on Qualcomm and/or Media Tek platforms.

* Experience performing objective and subjective image quality evaluation.

* Proficiency in camera testing under various lighting conditions and use cases.

* Familiarity with image quality metrics, testing methodologies, and KPI-driven quality assessment.

* Expertise in using camera tuning tools specific to Qualcomm and/or Media Tek.

* Understanding of RAW image processing and its impact on final image quality.

* Knowledge of common image quality issues and effective solutions, including noise, sharpness, color accuracy, and artifacts.

* Ability to use lab equipment and test fixtures for camera testing and controlled image capture.

* Experience with image processing and signal processing concepts.

* Ability to interpret how image processing algorithms affect overall image quality and user experience.

* Strong analytical skills to run simulations on RAW images and determine optimal tuning strategies.

* Ability to distinguish between good and poor photos and articulate the differences in technical and user-centric terms.

Additional

Skills & Qualifications

* Experience with multiple OEM camera tuning projects.

* Understanding of computational photography concepts and techniques.

* Experience with Python for scripting, data analysis, or automation related to camera testing and tuning.

* Experience in test fixture design for imaging and camera systems.

* Experience in optical processing and imaging, including an understanding of how lens changes affect sharpness profiles and overall image quality.

* Experience generating and maintaining comprehensive test results, tuning documentation, and SOPs.

* Comfort working in a fast-paced technology environment focused on software, AI, cloud, robotics, and advanced scientific innovation.

* Strong communication skills to collaborate with validation teams and other engineering stakeholders.

Work Environment

This position is based in a fast-paced, high-tech environment focused on delivering high-quality imaging experiences for consumer devices.
