Position: Applied Scientist, Mobile Manipulation Robotics (I/O)

Amazon Robotics is transforming warehouse automation through edge AI and machine learning applied to real-world robotics challenges. We’re seeking an Applied Scientist to advance our mobile manipulation capabilities by developing learning‑based approaches that enable robots to navigate and manipulate objects in dynamic fulfillment environments. This role offers the opportunity to apply state‑of‑the‑art research to production systems operating at Amazon's unprecedented scale.

Key Job Responsibilities
  • Model Development and Training:
    Designing and implementing model architectures, training and fine‑tuning models using various datasets, and optimizing performance through iterative experiments.
  • Data Management:
    Processing and preparing training data, including data governance, provenance tracking, data quality checks, and creating reusable data pipelines.
  • Experimentation and Validation:
    Designing and executing experiments to test model capabilities on the simulator and on the embodiment, validating performance across different scenarios, creating a baseline and iteratively improving model performance.
  • Code Development:
    Writing clean, maintainable, well‑commented and documented code, contributing to training infrastructure, creating tools for model evaluation and testing, and implementing necessary APIs.
  • Research:
    Staying current with the latest developments in foundation models and robotics, assisting in literature reviews and research documentation, preparing technical reports and presentations, and contributing to research discussions and brainstorming sessions.
  • Collaboration:

    Working closely with senior scientists, engineers, and leaders across multiple teams, participating in knowledge sharing, supporting integration efforts with robotics hardware teams, and documenting best practices and methodologies.

Basic

Qualifications
  • 3+ years of building models for business applications
  • PhD, or Master’s degree and 4+ years of experience in CS, CE, ML or related fields
  • Experience in patents or publications at top‑tier peer‑reviewed conferences or journals
  • Programming experience in Java, C++, Python or related language
  • Experience in any of the following areas: algorithms and data structures, parsing, numerical optimization, data mining, parallel and distributed computing, high‑performance computing
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience using Unix/Linux
  • Experience in professional software development
