Overview
Job duties include a range of veterinary care activities across animal restraint, triage, sample collection and analysis, diagnostic imaging, nursing care for medical and hospitalized cases with varying stability, administration of medications, communication of treatment plans to clients, surgical preparation and assistance, and anesthetic management. The role requires the ability to withstand unpleasant odors and noises and exposure to bites, scratches, animal waste, and potentially contagious diseases.
Training and development opportunities are available through virtual and hands-on programs.
- Restraint of animals and triage of incoming patients
- Collection and analysis of lab samples and processing of tests
- Diagnostic imaging and radiography positioning (dental radiographs a plus)
- Nursing care and management of medical and hospitalized cases with varying stability
- Administration of medications and anesthetic management
- Effective communication of treatment plans with clients
- Surgical preparation and assistance
- Interpret medical records and document client history accurately
- Knowledge of preventative care, surgical procedures, and hospital workflow
- Ability to restrain pets in a low-stress and safe manner
- Set up and process laboratory samples and tests
- Positioning and capturing radiographs; anesthesia and surgical monitoring
- Proactive self-starting attitude and willingness to advance knowledge and skills
- Receive and utilize constructive feedback to maintain hospital efficiency
- A high work ethic and positive attitude as a team member
- Ability to arrive on time and prepared to work
- A minimum of 1 year of experience preferred; CVT/RVT/LVT
- Weekend availability
- Exceptional customer service skills and ability to communicate precisely
- Ability to interpret medical records and record client history accurately
- Knowledge in preventative care, surgical procedures, and hospital flow
- Ability to restrain pets in a low-stress and safe manner
- Proficiency in sample collection (blood, urine, fecal, skin)
- Ability to properly set up and process laboratory samples and tests
- Proficiency in positioning and capturing radiographs; dental radiography is a plus
- Proficiency in anesthesia and surgical monitoring
- Self-starter with desire to continue to advance knowledge and skillset
- Ability to receive constructive feedback professionally to maintain hospital efficiency
- Ability to sit or stand and work at a computer for long periods
- Ability to be confident around animals (dogs, cats, birds, reptiles, etc.); species treated may vary by practice
- Occasional more than 40 hours per week to complete essential duties; may require weekends, evenings, and/or holidays
- Must have the mental capacity to reason, remember, and communicate in English
- Moderately high noise level; ear plugs available on request
- Ambulatory ability to perform duties; ability to sit, stand, walk, stoop, kneel, crouch, and climb
- Ability to lift, carry, or move up to 50 pounds
- Good hand-eye coordination and dexterity to operate equipment and use a keyboard
- Vision requirements include close, distance, color, peripheral, depth perception, and focus adjustment
- Exposure to animals that may bite, kick, or scratch; potential exposure to anesthesia, radiation, biological or zoonotic hazards, and medications/substances
