Overview

As an Embedded Software Development Engineer, you will be responsible for defining, building, and supporting the system design, architecture, and software for Ring IoT products. You will work closely with business and cross‑functional engineering teams across different organizations to gather engineering requirements, design and implement new features. You will contribute to all aspects of an agile software & systems development life cycle, including design, architecture, development, documentation, testing, and operations.

Your work involves solving hard technical problems with enthusiasm and collaboration across teams.

• Dive deep and help solve critical design issues involving algorithms, develop hardware/firmware interfaces, and IoT interfaces.
• Participate in design reviews for complex embedded systems, simulations, algorithms, and software development owned by your team and partner teams.
• Influence within your team and partner teams to drive and develop the technical implementation for overall system designs.
• Identify and implement process improvements that enhance the team’s agility, including improvements to design, automation, development, testing, or operations.
• Define and refine system requirements, and participate in developing and delivering interoperability‑related features such as system health monitoring, diagnostics, repair, and other self‑healing automation.
• Develop embedded software in C/C++ in Linux and real‑time operating system environments.

You will work closely with hardware engineers, product and program teams, and external engineering partners. Your day will involve writing documents, coding, conducting experiments, demonstrating proof‑of‑concepts, building prototypes, debugging issues, and shipping sophisticated systems.

• 3+ years of non‑internship professional software development experience.
• 2+ years of non‑internship design or architecture experience (design patterns, reliability, and scaling) of new and existing systems.
• Experience programming in at least one software programming language.
• Experience writing low‑level drivers.

• 3+ years of full software development life cycle experience, including coding standards, code reviews, source control management, build processes, testing, and operations.
• Bachelor’s degree in computer science or equivalent.
• Experience in embedded wireless systems.

Base salary ranges by location:
Hawthorne, CA: $ – $ USD annually;
Sunnyvale, CA: $ – $ USD annually;
North Reading, MA: $ – $ USD annually. The Amazon package includes sign‑on payments and restricted stock units (RSUs). Final compensation is determined based on experience, qualifications, and location.
