Overview
The Public Works Department serves as the backbone of our community, managing essential water, wastewater, drainage, and transportation systems with a steadfast commitment to environmental stewardship. Within this framework, the Administration & Engineering Division provides the strategic direction and technical oversight necessary to keep the city running. While Administration handles overarching operational support, the Engineering team serves as the primary technical authority for the city’s infrastructure, balancing the rigorous oversight of private development with the successful installation and maintenance of critical municipal infrastructure.
PositionSummary
The Public Works Department is seeking a qualified professional to join a dedicated team of seven full-time professionals, reporting directly to the City Engineer. This position will be filled as either a Civil Engineer or a Senior Civil Engineer, depending on the selected candidate’s qualifications and depth of experience.
Responsibilities- Civil Engineer
- Work under minimal supervision to assist the department with office and field‑related engineering.
- Oversee standard capital projects.
- Manage private development and plan reviews for compliance with city standards.
- Maintain a field presence to provide technical clarification for inspectors.
- Senior Civil Engineer
- Operate under nominal direction to take on an expanded leadership role within the division.
- Oversee capital project management.
- Focus on infrastructure master planning, regional interagency coordination, assisting with annual operations and CIP budgeting, and directing the work of external consultants.

- Education:
Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering from an ABET accredited University. - Experience:
3 to 5 years of civil engineering experience. Municipal or governmental engineering experience is highly preferred. - Licensing &
Certifications:
Must be registered as a Professional Engineer (P.E.) in the State of Texas. Designation as a Certified Floodplain Manager (CFM) is preferred, or candidate must have the ability to obtain it within 12 months of hire. Must possess a valid Texas driver’s license with a good driving record.

6 to 8+ years of extensive civil engineering experience, with a heavy emphasis on municipal infrastructure design or municipal consulting engineering. - Licensing &
Certifications:
Must be registered as a Professional Engineer (P.E.) in the State of Texas. Designation as a Certified Floodplain Manager (CFM) is preferred, or candidate must have ability to obtain it within 6 months of hire. Must possess a valid Texas driver’s license with a good driving record.

Salary ranges for each track are tier‑aligned based on candidate qualifications.

: $86,536 to $104,632 (depending on experience & qualifications) - Senior Civil Engineer
: $104,632 to $122,725 (depending on experience & qualifications)
