Safety Supervisor

The Safety Supervisor leads and directs safety initiatives for the Riddell US manufacturing facilities. This role oversees development and ongoing maintenance of a comprehensive safety program that ensures compliance with all Federal, State and local safety regulations and seeks to minimize injury risks in the facility. This position implements and monitors policies and procedures that creates and maintains a safe work environment, facilitates safety training, coordinates any injury reporting and investigation including the administration of Worker's Compensation claims.

The role requires key attributes of being highly people-focused, a strategic partner/collaborator, focused on continuous improvement, and a culture-builder to ensure the company has the safest culture and practices possible.

Essential duties and responsibilities (other duties as assigned):

  • Provides safety direction and guidance to the plant in all areas of manufacturing, distribution and logistics.
  • Develops, coordinates and/or conducts effective safety and HR related training for all employees including involvement in new hire orientation.
  • Maintains various safety audits and checklists and work with plant leaders and all employees to frequently monitor that the facility and work practices are safe.
  • Assists in developing corrective plans for audits, citations, notices or orders which impact the plants' operations.
  • Builds a safety culture with employee participation and commitment.
  • Coordinates and facilitates facility safety committee meetings and delegates appropriate floor audits and other safety checklist compliance through members of the committee.
  • Ensures permits, applications, renewals, and reporting requirements are met.
  • Creates job hazard analysis and makes recommendations for task modification or job rotation to mitigate injury risks, particularly related to ergonomic challenges with tasks.
  • Ensure all documentation, records, and files related to safety training are submitted and maintained in accordance with federal, state, and local requirements and Company policy.
  • Respond and coordinate in all facility injury or emergency situations. Oversees the maintenance of Material Safety Data Sheets (MSDS), OSHA logs, other safety related documentation, certificates, and employee informational postings.
  • Interacts with regulatory agencies, insurance providers, third party administrators and the Ohio Bureau of Workers' Compensation related to injury reporting, claims administration and other safety protocol.
  • Oversees safety protocols, inspections, and training related to material handling equipment (MHE), including forklifts and pallet jacks ensuring operators are certified and equipment is maintained in accordance with OSHA and company standards.
  • Complies, analyzes, and interprets data related to all Safety, work injury, and emergency response situations.
  • Works to ensure that safety and housekeeping standards are consistently met throughout the facility.
  • Responsible for all visitor and contractor safety policy and training to ensure 3rd parties meet all safety requirements.
  • Works to enforce Company policies and procedures in a fair and consistent manner and makes recommendations for safety violation disciplinary actions.
  • Maintains knowledge of current laws, regulations and industry trends as well as researching emerging laws and issues.
  • Performs other HR duties and supports company initiatives as assigned.

Qualifications:

  • Authorized to work in the U.S.
  • Bachelor's Degree in Industrial Safety, Business, or science field preferred.
  • A minimum of two (2) years related safety experience in a manufacturing environment.
  • Strong knowledge of OSHA, DOT, Workers' Compensation, vehicular safety and incident response protocol, and other key, related regulations.
  • Prior safety certifications (i.e., OSHA Training, Incident Management, Haz-Com, etc.) desirable.
  • Previous experience leading in a manufacturing environment preferred.
  • Experience with workers' compensation, regulatory interaction, and return-to-work programs.
  • Prior experience developing or administering forklift/MHE training and certification programs.
  • Demonstrated continuous process improvement experience is required.
  • Strong proficiency using MS Office applications including PowerPoint.
