Job Description

To provide a learning environment for students with moderate to profound handicaps, maximizing growth in all developmental areas and ensuring each student’s physical, social, emotional, and intellectual potential is fulfilled.

Performance Responsibilities

Assist individual programmatic needs for each student using assessment data as a baseline.

Develop individualized programs with a behavioral approach and a data collection system.

Integrate and generalize skills acquired in a structured behavioral classroom into other activities and environments.

Evaluate data, update, and monitor each student’s program to ensure maximum skill acquisition and maintenance.

Comply with the Rhode Island Right to Read Act, demonstrating proficiency or awareness of the Science of Reading and Structured Literacy.

Assume additional responsibilities as assigned by the Director of Pupil Personnel Services and Building Administrator.

Qualifications

Certified in Rhode Island as a special education teacher for grades K‑4.
Master’s in Special Education preferred.
Demonstrated knowledge of Rhode Island Professional Teaching Standards.

Job Requirements

Certification in Rhode Island as a special education teacher, grades K‑4.
Bachelor’s degree preferred.
Citizenship, residency, or work visa required.
