ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

At least three years of successful teaching experience (preferred) A valid R. I. Certificate as a Guidance Counselor A master's degree, or its equivalent, representing intensive course work in the principles and practice of educational guidance; educational testing and measurement; counseling; the organization and administration of guidance services; and the psychology of learning TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT:
Regular school year as stipulated for Guidance Counselors per NSTA Collective Bargaining Agreement Salary and other conditions to be set by the School Committee per contractual agreement EVALUATION:
Evaluation annually in accordance with provisions of the School Committee Policy on Evaluation JOB GOAL:
To support each student in reaching his or her full academic, career, and personal potential in order to become a responsible community member.

Plan, organize and deliver the school counseling curriculum. Standard 2:
Implement individual planning interventions in collaboration with partners (e.g., teachers, parents, mentors). Standard 3:
Provide responsive services in consultation with administrators, teachers and student support services through referrals to external organizations/agencies. Standard 4:

PROFESSIONAL

ROLES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Assist students in improving academic self-concept, acquiring skills for improving learning and achieving school success. Assist students in acquiring self-knowledge and acquiring interpersonal skills. Assist students in making decisions, setting goals, and taking necessary action to achieve goals. Address the developmental needs of students while supporting the school mission. Foster a safe and supportive school climate by demonstrating and promoting positive interpersonal relationships with students, staff, parents/guardians and community partners.

Promote accurate and appropriate interpretation assessment data and relevant information to assist SIT, RtI, 504 and Evaluation teams. Address students' identified needs and concerns individually and/or in small-group counseling. Modify or develop social/emotional learning curriculum and interventions as needed. Support teachers in the implementation of the social/emotional learning program (ex: Open Circle) Measure results and disseminate outcome information. Obtain input from school administrators and staff in developing the counseling management system.

Inform SIT and other advisory committees of program features and services. Determine the degree to which the school counseling program is being implemented. Ensure support for all students achieving at the highest levels. Maintain student records and protect their…
