Position Title:

MIDDLE SCHOOL COACH. Reports to Head Coach/Athletic Director/Building Administrator. Approved by Superintendent of Schools Date:
December 2, 2009.

POSITION SUMMARY:
  • To carry out the aims and objectives of the program as outlined by the Athletic Director and Head Coach.
  • To instruct athletes in the fundamental skills, strategy, and physical training necessary for them to realize a degree of individual and team success.
QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Rhode Island Certification as Middle School Teacher preferable
  • Valid Rhode Island Coaches’ Certificate
  • Valid first aid and CPR certificate
  • NFHS certification
TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT:
  • Annual appointment
  • Salary to be established by the North Smithfield School Committee
EVALUATION:
  • Evaluated by the Athletic Director and Building Principal.
Performance Responsibilities Administrative Responsibilities
  • Schedule contests with other middle schools.
  • Assist in the necessary preparation to hold scheduled events or practices.
  • Ensure a safe environment for the program.
  • Fulfill state, league, and school system requirements concerning physical examinations, parental consent, and eligibility.
  • Refer all requests or grievances from students and/or parents through proper channels.
Student Responsibilities
  • Provide training rules and regulations to each athlete.
  • Provide assistance and safeguards for each participant.
  • Direct student managers, assistants, and statisticians on respective teams.
  • Maintain discipline and work to increase morale and cooperation within the school sports program.
  • Instill in each player a respect for equipment and school property, its care, and proper use.
  • Responsible for conduct of student athletes at all home/away games/meets as well as the bus trip to and from all away games/meets.
Equipment and Facilities Responsibilities
  • Accountable for all equipment and submit annual inventory to the Athletic Director or Building Principal.
  • Recommend budgetary items for next year in his/her area of the program to the Athletic Director or Building Principal.
  • Examine locker rooms before and after practices and games.
  • Provide security prior to leaving building.
Program Responsibilities
  • Instruct team members in the rules and fundamentals of the sport.
  • Maintain a record of team statistics.
  • Work within the basic framework and philosophy of the school system and the Athletic Director.
  • Attend all staff meetings.
Other
  • Perform such other duties that are consistent with the nature of the position and requested by the Athletic Director or Building Principal.
