Job Description Overview
Positions may be covered by NERC CIP cyber security standards. If covered, candidates must complete a Personnel Risk Assessment (identity verification and criminal background check) prior to hire/promotion/transfer, and attend cyber security training (annual training required). Depending on location, a credit background check may also be required.
SummaryUnder general supervision, plans, schedules, conducts, and coordinates engineering projects of varying size and complexity, acting as staff advisor and consultant as needed.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities- Provide advanced engineering and project management expertise on large or complex projects or multiple smaller projects.
- Lead or conduct performance, cost, and scheduling studies using innovative techniques and/or modified standards.
- Offer specialized technical support to operational areas and communicate engineering ideas to diverse audiences.
- Represent the company in advanced engineering matters and resolve broad technical/organizational issues.
- Provide technical direction and supervision to contractors and company personnel when required.
- Lead or act as a lead for staff engineers, professionals, and technicians; provide training as appropriate.
- Apply extensive engineering expertise to improve or develop new standards.
- Extensive knowledge of engineering principles, practices, and regulations; ability to perform economic and decision analysis.
- Ability to read, interpret, and apply codes and standards (IEEE, ANSI, NEC, NESC, ACI, AISC, ASME, NACE, etc.).
- Ability to translate electrical theory to utility applications; strong communication and leadership skills.
- Comfortable working around high voltage (up to 345 kV) electrical facilities and equipment.
- Ability to forecast budgets and demonstrate strong interpersonal skills.
Minimum Education and/or Experience
- Bachelors Degree in Engineering from ABET-accredited program with 5–7 years of experience. Masters degree preferred.
Certificates, Licenses, and Registrations
- Professional Engineer license in NM preferred.
- Current, valid driver's license; meet company driving record requirements.
- Ability to read and interpret documents; write routine reports and correspondence; present to groups; speak effectively before groups.
- Proficiency with engineering design programs and standard office software (word processing, databases, spreadsheets).
Ability to apply common sense and analyze complex problems with multiple variables.
Physical DemandsFrequent sitting, standing, walking; lifting up to 50 pounds; crouching, bending, climbing, and working tective equipment: hard hat, safety glasses, hearing protection.
Work EnvironmentTime split between office and field; work around high voltage electricity facilities, computers, office equipment, and construction equipment.
