Are you passionate about protecting cultural heritage and ensuring the stories of our ancestors live on? The Squamish Nation’s Ta na wa Ns7éyx̱nitm ta Snew̓iyelh (Language and Cultural Affairs) Department is seeking a Cultural Collections Lead to safeguard, catalog, and showcase our Nation’s priceless art and cultural artifacts. This is a rare opportunity to play a vital role in preserving Squamish history for future generations..

What You’ll Do

  • Preserve & Protect:
    Clean, inventory, and catalog Squamish Nation’s art and cultural collections housed in North Vancouver and Squamish Valley offices, following museum-grade conservation practices.
  • Bring History to Life:
    Support collection development, exhibitions, and event programming to share Squamish culture with the community and beyond.
  • Research & Interpret:
    Dive into the stories behind artifacts, ensuring accurate documentation and respectful representation of Squamish traditions.
  • Collaborate:
    Work closely with the Manager, Culture, and community members to align collections care with Squamish values and protocols.
  • Improve Systems:
    Enhance the department’s cataloging and organization methods to ensure long-term preservation and accessibility.
  • What We’re Looking For

  • A combination of education and experience in museum studies, Indigenous studies, archaeology, or a related field.
  • Hands-on experience working with art, cultural artifacts, or museum collections (knowledge of conservation best practices is a plus).
  • Strong organizational skills to manage inventories, multitask, and maintain meticulous records.
  • Respect & Sensitivity:
    Deep appreciation for Indigenous cultures and protocols, preferably with experience in a First Nations environment.
  • Communication:
    Professional, diplomatic, and able to work collaboratively with teams and community members.
  • Discretion:
    Ability to handle sensitive materials and information with integrity and confidentiality..

    Salary: $62,500 - $87,500

    Candidates are typically offered compensation between the beginning to the midpoint of the range. We are committed to providing a fair and equitable package that reflects the value an individual brings to the organization.
