The District of West Vancouver Community Services Department is accepting applications for a choir instructor to lead group choir programs. This position is based out of the Seniors’ Activity Centre and will involve working with a client group aged 55+. Evening and weekend hours are required for this position.

This choir instructor will be responsible for:

· Directing the Senior’s Activity Centre Heritage Choir;

· Planning and conducting weekly rehearsals;

· Selecting diverse and appropriate repertoires suited to the vocal ranges, abilities and interests of the senior ensemble;

· Providing vocal instruction and coaching to support pitch accuracy, tone production, diction, phrasing and ensemble blend;

· Maintaining a high quality, inclusive choral program that supports music growth, community engagement, and healthy aging through group singing; and,

· Preparing and directing two (2) major seasonal concerts.

The successful candidates will have a Bachelor’s degree in Music or Music Education (B. Mus or

B.ED minimum) and demonstrated experience conducting large choral ensembles and working with senior populations or community-based choirs. They will also possess strong conducting technique and rehearsal skills. Piano proficiency is considered an asset.

All applicants must provide a cover letter, resume, and a sample lesson plan for a 3 week class or program to be taught.

The successful candidate is required to supply a police information check with vulnerable sector and a copy of their credentials.
